Default Waikoloa Hawaii (The Big Island) Charter

I will be traveling to The Big Island and staying at Hilton Waikoloa Village with my girlfriend from January 29, 2019 – February 6, 2019. I want to book a charter to do some marlin fishing (it’s my understanding that striped marlin should be decent that time of year). I am going to charter the whole boat for 8 hours and it will be just the 2 of us. Does anyone have recommendations for the best charter to book? I know some of the guys I have talked to say they pack snorkeling gear in case fishing is slow or we want to change it up ½ way thru the charter which would be a plus since she is not hard core into fishing.

Any other general recommendations for things to check out while there would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Josh

Hi Josh
My recommendation would be. Teddy Hoogs boat "Bwana" 808-936-5168....be aware some charters keep the catch,...I would highly recommend to do a Manta Ray trip/snorkel either Splashers more adventurous large zodiac no facilitys or Hula Kai very short run nice large boat with Facilities.....Have Fun....Brad

Teddy is good so is Capt Jeff Rogers with fishing in Kona. He will be the next boat I go out on, when i go down there, if it costs to much to get a Kayak down there.

Good luck. There are a lot of good captains down there, and really work hard for you.

Don't bring the snorkel gear, you're going fishing! I got a nice blue marlin late in the day coming back in (the drop off is right off shore so fish can be in close). That was my 3rd trip out too while renting the boat for myself with the only marlin so be patient. And the captains sell their catch which keeps the charter rates down so it's not a complete scam.

Josh,

The diving with the manta rays is a must, it is one of the coolest things I have ever done.

Greg "Stretch" Fogarty has the Hula Girl out of Honokohau and lets you keep your catch under 50lbs. Remember to tip your captain, as there really isn't much left over after fuel, expenses, etc. despite the cost of the trip.

That’s where we stayed for our honeymoon. You can rent snorkeling gear at the hotel. Also at the hotel, you can set up excursions. They have a nice luau if your interested. You may want to bring beach shoes since the sand is very course.

World class marlin fishing and a lot of top notch Captains in Kona. Not many places like it. Have fished several times with Capt Stymie on the Huntress (old Black Bart). Beautiful boat, professional outfit and knows how to catch big marlin.
