Default Slow pitch rod input

Just received my meta witch rod (mtsc634 SF) w my ocea jigger 2000NRHG reel. Hearing conflicting reports on rod quality (I got the new quest 470.00) anyone have any experience/input on quality and durability. Its a power 4 but Im just wondering how big a fish it will handle b4 taking to channel islands for seabass, yellowtail or halibut. Here at hm a ling cod over 20 is uncommon but it happens. Any input welcome. Thx!

i think you'll be AOK -- a PE 4 rod is going to handle some big fish. I've seen 50lb+ AJs caught on pe2-3 slow pitch rods

just point the rod at the fish if its becoming too much for the rod, let the reel earn its keep

thx man. Thats what all my research and watching all the videos and grilling all the Japanese vendors has told me. I just wanted to hear an objective view b4 tryin it out. Got the PE3 line inbound but its only 150meters what would you use underneath as backer I have braid and mono - Do I even need it? Goin after yellowtail tuna or halibut depending on whats biting. Thinkin backer will be necessary. Narrow reel though.

I'd just back with similar braid, no sure how deep you'll be fishing but we hit 400' regularly when we're in the gulfstream and 150 meters may not make it to the bottom with current in play

what is PE3 anyways? like 40lb test? Might be worth it to back with heavier braid as drag #s increase with more line out at the same drag setting

is this the palms metal witch?
if so, i have fished it long time ago, i think 2015. the rod has a nice lively tip but too soft for my liking.
the rod can handle anything, the fight is dependent on the reel's drag.
learn to use the rod as a shock absorber instead of using it to winch or fight a fish. don't pump, just a porcha said, point he rod to the fish and pull then reel then repeat.

So PE3 equals 38. Something lb test so yes 40 lb test basically.

I'm not familiar with the rod you are referring to but if you're targeting WSB you want a rod with a soft tip, I've used the Seeker SD8 for yrs on sea bass and do okay. Good luck with whatever you go with.
