Default Coronado Bay vacation

Not fishing related, but anyone with thoughts about the Coronado Island resorts? Hotel Del is $400+ night. Is it worth it? Others are in the $200-300 range.

The Del is Legendary - you won’t regret it.

Living in San Diego since 1970, we're over there all the time, but have never actually stayed overnight in any of the hotels (not that I can remember).

At the Del, you may get an ocean view, while at the Marriott you may get a bayside view looking across the bay to downtown San Diego, with all the boat traffic going by. To me, that would be more interesting, plus it's an easy walk to couple of very good restaurants (Peohe's and Il Fornaio plus others) and the Ferry Landing. A quick trip on the ferry gets you across the bay to downtown and all of the many, many things to do and see over there.

If you want to habituate the Del but save a few bucks, you could stay right across the street at El Cordova. The Del is iconic, has the upscale Shearwater restaurant, and a couple of other good spots (The Brigantine and Miguel's Cocina) a few blocks away. In the end, if you want to stay at the Del for the record, do it, but you can certainly hang out there without staying there.

Thanks! I booked 5 nights at El Cordova. I hope my wife is happy!

I don't think it will be "beach" weather by then, but it is close enough to walk to is what she was demanding....

I hope you get some beach weather, it’s cold now, but you’ll have a great time I’m sure. Welcome to San Diego!

Got a little grumbling about not being directly on the beach. I did not want to go across the country to the Caribbean /central America for only a 5 day trip, and I certainly was going to Mexico. I am thinking it will be a lot better trip than the Florida Keys as well.

It's close enough.

There are so many rooms at the Hotel Del that aren't "beachfront" it's not worth the premium (to me) to pay more and then be back off the beach in a wing that feels like a Marriot in Anytown, USA.

I am sure we will be fine! I am not a sit on the beach person/lounge by the pool. I would rather sit and drink coffee in the morning at an outdoor café or have a nice dinner with a view. Seems to be a lot of those choices.

Thanks for all the insight!

maybe you’ll get lucky and catch hell week for a new BUD/S class.... if you hear “fireworks” after dark on a Sunday... it’s most likely begun....

(fireworks = m60 on full auto)

Since we are arriving on Easter, I want to make sure we have somehere to eat. Should be landing at about 11am.

Thought about the Del’s brunch, but its $98 a person. Wow. Any suggestions fior brunch that I can make reservations?

Peohe's - Coronado Island | Part of the Chart House Family of Restaurants would be my choice. For an Easter Sunday brunch, I've eaten with the family at the Marriott, but cost wise, it's right up there with the Del.

Enter the coupon code THTAdmiralsClub, click the Apply Coupon button, and the price will drop to $39.78.
