Anyone have anything or know of anyone? We were thinking about renting a boat but none of us know the area.

There is no boating out of Laguna Beach, so you'd have to get up to Newport Beach or down to Dana Point. If you really want to take a hike, San Diego has the most options. It all depends upon how serious you are and what you're looking to do.

Yes, I am aware of that. That is just where we will be so north or south of there is fine. Does not matter if 1-3 hours away.

The boat I am most familiar with and can recommend is the Blackjack. It runs out of Mission Bay in San Diego. I have recommended it on THT previously and the member who fished it enjoyed it. charter boat San Diego

It depends on what you want to do. If you are hoping to have a shot at some tuna and yellowtail your best bet is to make the trek down to San Diego. That is not to say there is not a chance of catching some out of Dana or Newport but going to San Diego greatly increases your odds. If you stick to Dana or Newport you may fish the beach for bass and rockfish right now or shoot across to Catalina for bass and rockfish with an increased shot at yellowtail.

The other thing to remember is out here there are not a lot of bare boat charter companies, the one that I know for sure that is still in business is Slay Day. They will deliver the boat and launch it for you.

If you are looking for a close 4 pack charter (with a Capt.) I would highly recommend checking out The Boardroom II (Parker 2320) out of Dana Wharf. Great operation.
