Default MARAD Small Vessel Waiver Questions/Information

It is now possible for certain foreign-built vessels, or vessels with no documentation, to gain a waiver of the U.S.-build requirement in order to conduct limited commercial passenger operations in the United States. Some restrictions apply. Once a waiver is obtained, it becomes part of the vessel’s documentation and stays with the vessel if it is sold.

Vessels with no Vessel Documentation, meaning, the vessel is not USCG Documented. Not necessarily the Builder's Certificate

That is my problem: Bought a used boat that was never Documented and did not come with a Builder’s Certificate. (Double wammy)
Talked to the USCG, told them the boat was made in the US and 1000 were made at the same factory and offered to show them a Document from a sister ship where it states the boat is built in Rhode Island. Furthermore there is numerous old magazine articles and other papers showing it is a US built boat.
None of that was good enough, pay the $500 instead, then it is ok.
Almost think it is a scam.

Please anyone interested in this waiver be aware that if you wish to carry more than 6 passengers for hire, you MUST still go through the process of getting your vessel certificated/inspected as a Small Passenger Vessel by the CG.

Simply paying for a waiver, that is not easily obtained does not allow you to carry 12 passengers.
