Default Terrible canvas work

Hired someone to put an enclosure around my boat. I gave her 1000 dollars down and after she finished the work I was out of town so I had my wife pay her another 400 till I got back to look at it. After looking at it there was multiple things wrong with it. The front glass was behind the windshield so water would leak on the floor. The top itself was to short and didn't wrap to the sides.
None of the buttons lined up and there was seams that had come apart. So I met her today to see if she had fixed the issues and they was still there. The buttons were worse. I told her I wasn't happy and she demanded I pay her what I owed. I told her she could give me back my 1400 and take it all with her. She said she would be back tuesday to get the rest of her money. I'm not sure what to do at this point. It's a crap job and there is no way to fix the top. The picture I showed her of the old top and the way it looked. You can also see how the old enclosure was in front of windshield.

What I got. Those long strings holding it on is super annoying to me.

Nothing lined up and the sides are so loose I feel like it will come apart running the boat. She had a tiny black strip on the black that looked unfinished and she added the thicker strips.

The grommet holes are way to big for the pegs. None of them line up but 1

Nothing fits right

Also made a video after she left.
So now I feel like I'm out of 1400 dollars because I dont even want it. I would rather she give me my money back and take it with her or fix the problems. Her last words to me was I'm done with it and you need to pay me. I told her I wanted to at least run the boat to see if it would hold up under 30 knots.

Not sure what to do at this point.

Go to small claims court. She's obviously not able and willing to give you what you want and you obviously don't trust her to do it so either you eat shit on the $1400 and hope she doesn't come back with a hammer or go after her for a full refund. I recommend Judge Judy.

if she takes the enclosure off the boat I will be out of an enclosure and I doubt I'll ever get a penny of my money back.

Looks terrible and I be pissed too. I’d drop it off and tell her either the money or you are gonna take her to small claims court. Then hire someone competent to do the job. Don’t see any other way it turns out good. X2 on Judge Judy!

Seems to me you barely have an enclosure now unfortunately.

So... take the enclosure off yourself and put it in the garage as a reminder of the old rule of spending more to get more. "Buy once, cry once."

yes you're crazy. if she couldn't even do a mediocre job then she never should have taken it. No excuse for nothing lining up.

I had an enclosure made for my ~30' express two years ago and it cost me $4600. It is perfect and the fabricator listened to and followed up on all my little nit picky items. There are no wrinkles in the clear or the Stamoid.
I don't mean to rub salt on this one, but a quality enclosure should be at least double or more than the amount you paid.

Lots of problems here
1400 is a ridiculously low price for a FB enclosure. Did you get any other estimates?
Your old enclosure was a poor fit so if it was used it as a pattern.......no good
looks like lowest grade ( thinnest) glass, which will never hold shape in panels that large
she / he did not do a good job.

Victimhood is the new American pastime. THT should devote an entire forum to "I'm a Victim!" threads, it would be a large one.
$2150 for a full enclosure? Really? Looks to me like you got a bargain. Did you bother to get any references or take a look at work done for others... or any due diligence at all? Sure doesn't appear that way. You get what you pay for, so pay her.

since when does it become my responsibility to ask to get the work I am paying for. She quoted the price not me. I'm not an enclosure expert. I know what a good job is supposed to look like and that's horrible work. I looked at her website and some other work she had done. I told her what I wanted. Yes I thought it was cheap but was thinking maybe she needed the work. I didn't ask. When the sides and front wont even button on we have a problem. Had she wrapped it in seran wrap would I still owe her money? I dont think so.

I'm only asking what my rights are. Not interested in all the extra commentary. I paid for a job that was supposed to be done right. The only thing I assumed was I was getting a good job . I could have done a better job than that with a sewing machine and a butter knife Not much help other than it's my fault. Had her company been discount canvas with a slogan that said we do half ass work for cheap than I wouldn't have a reason to complain.

even at that price. It’s unfortunate for sure and hopefully you get your money back, but even with the slightest bit of looking into it I’d imagine you’d realize that price is far to low. Anyone could put whatever up online , Instagram or Facebook of work that isn’t theirs. Fingers crossed she makes good for ya.
