Default eBay motor fraud warning

So I bought a motor off eBay for a little single engine project.
Iíve done it a dozen times with no issues. This time I bought one from
ďBylandandseaĒ. It was advertised as a 762 hr motor with pics that represented a near perfect motor and a computer read out. I got the motor in and it has a broken foot and 1124 hours. It does run good as he mentioned in the texts Iím posting with this. Says he reuses pics if heís selling the same type engine and doesnít see any issue with selling you something youíve never seen a pic of. But it runs good is all that matters. Do not do business with this guy. Heís a fraud and You donít know what your getting with him.

I'd lodge a fraud complaint with ebay asap and with paypal if you used that service. If you used a credit card get with them ASAP and dispute the charge. Sorry to see this. He clearly did a bait and switch with you and I personally wouldn't stand for that. The negative feedback that you could leave probably won't really hurt him that much and surely won't put you in the position that you expected to be. Good luck!

No but Iíve shared it on here and all the Yamaha, center console groups and marine forums on Facebook. The post views replies there and shares are taking off like a rocket ship. And Iíve lodged a fraud report on ebay. Just wanted to put this out there as a warning. Iíve bought dozens of motors online from good people. I got bit on this one. Live and learn.

Yeah that sucks, the chip in the ventilation plate probably won't hurt anything. The seller knew about the chip and the real run time, plenty of dishonest sellers out there. At least you got a motor you can use and enjoy, plenty used buyers get a POS that never runs right.

problem is I paid for a completely different engine
and that same engine is being advertised with 762 hrs on eBay with reused pics and has bids on it. Someone else is about to get screwed

Those hours could represent 5 years of service. That’s not right. I would file every complaint possible . He will eat the shipping both ways. Hope it’s Cross country

You're being way too nice in this situation. All you have to do is open a case and he will be covering all returns costs and issuing you a 100% refund. He doesn't get a choice in the matter as he didn't list the item accurately. Honestly I would just return based on principle alone and let him eat the costs. Guarantee that will make him think twice about being so lazy.

I’m not at all defending the seller but how did he sell 554 and have 100% feedback . Many are OB’s. It just a bit odd he would act this way this time. His past shows all good.

I made well over 1000 Ebay purchases and I will attest to their credibility. CONTACT THEM ASAP!!! the motor you received is NOT the one pictured in the ad. My experience suggests that the seller will be forced to send you a shipping lable for return and if they do not refund your purchase cost, Ebay will stand behind it. Do not operate the motor! YOU may get stuck for whatever was broken although that is small change

doing a little more research heís changed his ebay handle a few times. Seems like a lot of bad motors have been sold by him. Itís easy to get good feedback with two accounts. You can sell yourself $5items nonstop and leave all the wonderful feedback you want

Best theyíd do is probably the deposit. But Iím not looking for a refund. Iíve tuned the motor up and it is running fine. My point is that I didnít get the motor I paid for and itís no big deal because it runs fine? Thatís a shoddy way of doing business.
Reusing old pics of good looking motors just because itís the same model as the one your selling? Shoddy
the same motors are for sale right now on eBay with bids on them. Iím hoping someone bidding sees one of my threads on these forums and retracts their bid before they get a motor that doesnít run at all or has 5000 hrs on it

You've got some good documentation

If you dont want to return it, I'd ask for a significant discount. He committed fraud and admitted to it. I don't know whats fair? 30% $$ refund? Also might help if you post up more information such as name and address of the guy/company because as you said he has changed his ebay handle several times and it appears "bylandandsea" is no longer a valid ebay name...
