They have made our summer cruising miserable in both block island and edgartown. Zero respect for no wake harbors. Their launches rock you day and night. I don't understand how the harbormasters in both block island and edgartown allow this behavior. Everyone is complaining about it. We are headed to Newport next. I am going to guess we will be woken up all night until 1am when the launch service stops and first thing crack of dawn when it starts up?

So slip holders are more important than other paying marina users?

I will be talking to them about it. Tried to deal with it a few nights but after being woken up every single day/night and then finally getting rocked to the point where things are flying off counter tops at 1am (that dont even fall when underway) you will get pissed. At block I called them out, one launch was waking everyone the other one was not. Then everyone started chiming in on the radio telling them to cut it out and they got the message finally (at least for the remainder of the stay there). And no its not my first time, I spend several months a year on moorings and generally there are no problems.

I have always found Oldport to be a well run company that provides a very valuable service in many harbors. The owners are great people who have a long history in the industry.
They run 26’ Oldports, which are the old 26’ wasque hull. These are a very maneuverable boat that push easy with light power and can scoot along without a huge wake. Most are powered with Yanmar 4jh’s in the 50-70 hp range. You have to try real hard to get them to throw a huge wake. I spent a lot of time running one for another company and they are great launches.
Being on a mooring in on a busy harbor means it will be quieter, and cheaper, but you will rock more. Being in a marina is more expensive and noisier, but you won’t get rocked. Everything in life is a compromise.

So I will ask: what gives launches a free pass to throw any sort of wake in a harbor / area that is NO WAKE? Thanks.

That is clearly an excessive and unnecessary wake right there.
Can you provide some more information,
Wake height and period?
On a scale of 1-10 with 1 being the least severe and 10 being the most severe, rate wake turbulence discomfort.
Degrees of list of your vessel?
Was your vessel damaged in excess of $2000 or personal injuries* incurred?
Do you have pictures of excessive wake?
How many hot dogs rolled off your grill?
The THT community needs this information to better weigh the merits of your complaint.

So as an update, as expected, Oldport launches were no fun in Newport. Some how all the other launches (NYYC, Ida Lewis, Newport Harbor, etc) had no issues observing no wake rules, did not get too close to vessels as they passed, and generally were much better behaved than Oldport launches.
Some food for thought: increased wakes not only make staying on a boat uncomfortable but also cause additional wear and tear on boats, docks, seawalls, infrastructure, etc. We could not cook aboard because things would've flown off our stove top. Also, my senior k9 who is starting to have issues walking was tossed around pretty good thanks to Oldport launches flying by.
The best two nights of sleep I got in the past week were in harbors where there were launches not operated by Oldport and we weren't getting waked left and right. It shouldnt be like that. Newport, Edgartown, and Block are awesome boating destinations, hopefully Oldport finds a way not to make them miserable.
