Default I will NEVER buy another MinnKota product - eating crow!!

I've been through hell trying to get the Minn Kota Terrova that I bought in December repaired. It's stopped functioning 9 weeks ago and it is still not repaired.

Service center #1 said they could get to it in 1 week. After 2 weeks he said he was so far behind repairing them that he had no idea when he could get to it. So I picked it up and took it to another service center

Service center #2 sounded better...."we only take appointments but can normally have it repaired in a few days after your appointment date" I waited 9 days for the appointment and dropped it off. That was 10 days ago. They just told me he would "try to get to it next week but I would probably owe him money". Why would I owe $$$ for warranty work?? He explained that Minn Kota only pays him $45 per hour and he charges $90.....I will owe the difference for WARRANTY WORK!!!

So, I will be picking it up and taking it to #3 that is a 2 hour drive from me. They claim that they can look at it within 48 hrs and do not charge extra. I have my doubts.

I have complained to Minn Kota's customer service. Nice guys but no help other than telling me where other service centers are.

Do yourself a favor and don't purchase a MinnKota!!

Try another service center. I dropped mine off on Monday and got a call this morning saying it’s ready to go.

The service centers are just marine shops. I bet if you looked at some Google reviews you could have saved yourself some headache.

What is your time worth? How much time are you spending running around to all of these services centers and taking it back because they ticked you off?

Sounds like you should have let #2 take care of it, or just throw your motor in the trash and cut your losses.

Never had much luck with Minn Kota, I had one years ago that the head was constantly coming loose on, had another that rusted out like a bitch. I do a good job of taking care of my stuff too, I have a 25yr old boat with original gel that shines like new. Have a friend that had the same rusting issue and it left rust stains all over his deck & numerous other issues. Not sure what possessed me to buy the 2nd one but I switched to Motorguide & haven't looked back.

Unfortunately service is only as good as the servicer, and there are a lot of crappy ones out there.
I feel your pain, it really sucks to pay for something and not have it work and then find nobody willing to help in a reasonable time frame.
Paying someone extra for warranty work does not seem like a viable plan. I would be raising hell with MK directly.

Yeah paying on top of warranty is pretty chitty. Seems like When he made the deal to be a service center he would have to repair warranty for whatever he and the company agreed on. I wouldn’t pay for warranty work either.

Minn Kota has been fair with me, and "Front to Back" Boat Service in Baton Rouge has been a great service center, even though I didn't purchase my motor through them. To be clear, Front to Back has nothing to do with the OP, I'm just giving them props for being a great service center.

My 3 year old Rip Tide motor case is rusting like crazy , In a pinch I used a Chinese non galvanized wheel bearing hub assembly , its holding up much better . I think this will be my last Minnkota too

Where are you located? There is a service center in Jacksonville that is an awesome guy, gets to it quick, keeps you posted by email almost daily, and knows his stuff. His name is Matt and I highly recommend him.

Having blasted Minn Kota, I need to eat crow. Nothing wrong with the motor....just the sorry service centers.

I asked the first 2 centers if they would quickly hook it up to 24volt to see if it was in fact the motor. Both refused and said I would just have to leave it until they could get to it.

So, yesterday I took it to Boat Sales of Lake Wylie, SC. Walked in and spoke to the gentleman, Frank, that does the repairs on trolling motors. I again asked if it could be tested before I left it. Frank stopped what he was working on, spent less than 5 minutes to hook it up and determine that the motor works fine. After discussing what the motor was doing, his best guess was that even though I had 25.6v at the plug, one of my new batteries was the issue. I swapped out the batteries this morning and he was correct.
