Its all about them chasing sales that the Japanese have (Rav, Rouge, Subarus etc) and Koreans (Hyundai and Kia). Meanwhile they are forgetting what their base fans want. We do not want, metro-sexual CUVs, GM. We want truck based SUVs which is what the original K5 Blazer was. You have all the parts right there GM, get off your ass Mary Barra and build it! I have been a Jeep owner for 20+ years because no one else makes what I like. And looking at the available offerings, I see nothing from Ford, or GM to change that in the near future. I don't need a full size Pick Up. I would buy a Jeep Gladiator for sure. Just don't want to give up my Hemi powered Grand Cherokee yet.

Believe me it has nothing to do with chasing sales of the OEM's you mentioned. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Give you a hint though...……………

Think the Late great Sergio Marchioni

4Runner sales continue to be strong and as one of the few remaining BOF midsize SUV's. People who buy them know what they are getting and accept the dinosaur parts to get the durable/ reliable SUV the rest of the market gave up on.
As the owner of one, It gets the same 20MPG as everything else and I'd buy another.

While disappointing the new blazer is a crossover, it's what the market is calling for and the Equinox shrunk too much. I'm sure they will sell/ lease a ton but with a 45K Price to get a nice RS with V6 and AWD, It wouldn't make my shopping list!

The thing is, GM does make truck based SUVs...Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, Escalade, and they sell close to 300K a year for tons of money.

Chasing sales the Japanese and Koreans have? GM is doing pretty well in the SUV/CUV space, I don't think they are chasing anyone.

Friend and I stopped by a GM dealer and checked out a Blazer over the weekend.
-Same size as the previous Equinox, I suppose since the Equinox shrunk, the Blazer is now that size CUV.
-This one was an LT, V6 AWD with cloth and no sun roof or real options... $39K

When Jeep was still AMC in the 80s, the little Cherokees actually DID have GM 2.8 v6s in them. (The gm 2.8 was actually listed on most extended warranties as being excluded from coverage!) When Jeep come out with the inline 4.0 it was like the seas had parted and angels sang from on-high.

OK I think I can come up with a "viable solution" that would make this new "Blazerette" acceptable to those of over 35 (and who don't drink latte's or have a testosterone count lower than a 3yr old).... make an "SS version" complete with AWD and the LT-1 6.2 like my wifes 2017 SS Convertible. THAT beyotch would command respect in the Kroger parking lot!
