2014 GMC Yukon XL Dash Crack
60k miles
Purchase new in December 2014
So I'm driving down the road and I hear a loud pop from my dashboard. It seems that the dash is 2 pieces and where there is a seam one of the "clips" broke.
Within 2 days a crack started to appear and has continue to grown.
I went online to see if there was any info or videos in regards to repairing and come to find out this has been a huge problem for years on these vehicles. In fact, when I went to images there are some pics that are so close it looks like it is of my actual dash.
Here is the link to pics... https://www.google.com/search?q=2014...a7DYsQ_AUIBygC
I spoke with my GMC dealer and there is no recall or bulletin for this and the price is approx. $1200 to fix.
My question is, has anyone gone through this before or have any advice as to how to deal with GMC in resolving what is obviously a recurring and common issue?

They busted my suburban dash on replacing drivers side airbag.....they denied it. Then I read up on how many vehicles are affected by this problem and was surprised.
Since then, I now have a recall on passenger side airbag......cant wait to see how they are going to piece back dash after removal. It will be in 4 parts.
Mine is a 07' so this has been an issue for a long time.

My 08 Sierra has a crack on passenger side corner near the windshield.
New dash (just that forward piece, not the part that wraps over the front of dash) was quoted at $260 from dealer.
A lot of people reported cracks near airbag panels. That piece is much more expensive. If you look on the full size Chevy forums, it seems to be hit or miss at dealers to get it fixed under warranty. Even less likely out of warranty.

My buddies 11 has that problem. I didn't on mine. Wonder if it is a specific color? Mine is brown and no problems in 6 years although I also keep a bunch of stuff on my dash.

My 2009 Suburban black on back cracked after 3 years and GM footed the bill for the parts and i paid install at the dealer.
My 2011 silverado also black on black has NOT cracked YET...I did put a permanent UV shield film on the windshield to hopefully mitigate the problem (knocking on wood now)

Here's a pic of the crack.
What is pissing me off is that this isn't exactly what I consider a beater truck.,
It's a '14 XL 4x4 hard loaded with multiple DVD screens, leather, buckets, Nav, sunroof etc.
MSRP was around $63k before taxes.
Just rolled 60k miles.

People bitch about outboards.
Three GMC's, three continuing issues.
- Dash cracks.
- Tappet knocks.
- PS Pump whines.
From 96' - 13'
One would think I would learn.
But I love em.

I'd think your bumper to bumper warranty would cover that. Need to go in armed with pictures and info from forums and other owners experiencing the same thing. If the dealer doesn't seem receptive, ask for the regional csm. Gm will more than likely good faith it for you. Dealer won't want any part of it most likely because it's a low paying, labor intensive warranty repair.

I am 79.
Raised on G M cars & trucks until about 1976. That brand new Spirit of " 76 " Chevy fastback with a 6 cyl for my wife convinced me to try Honda & Acura.. Felt bad that we could not match the Japanese quality. I donate or give away the vehicles at 120,000 miles in excellent condition. People always thank me for them. Only make I will toss the keys to someone & know they will have no mechanical problems or breakdowns.
I just can not give up any of my 1988 & newer Evinrudes. Same reliability. I sometimes pat the motors.

Correct, warranty is expired.
I am normally someone that acknowledges when a warranty is expired then it is over and on now on my dime however when it is obvious there is a manufacturer defect that has been going on for years and they refuse to address is where I have an issue.
I spoke with GM customer support today and have to drop my truck off at a dealership to get "diagnosed" and a claim filed which is a giant pain in the ass for me but I can appreciate their process and will follow it.
