Default Mercedes Benz GL SUV Towing

Guys does anyone tow with one of these and if so how do they do? They have a 7500# tow rating...

My family is growing and am thinking of selling my pickup and getting a Nice large SUV.

No specific experience with the GL. But, have experience with a growing family and would suggest you go as large a spossible. I consider the GL to be a mid-size, not full-size.

If this will be a family vehicle being used for vacation roadtrips etc, and you expect to have 3 or more kids in the vehicle with you -- you simply can't have too much volume. Go full size. We made the mistake of going with a mid-size SUV and have always regretted not bumping up to a full-size (e.g. Suburban.)

Max of two kids -- different story and the GL should be fine.

you have to read the fine print on tow capacity sometimes you have to have a specific package or a weight distribution hitch over a certain weight

All GL's have a 7500# cap and almost all have the factory tow kit.

It depends what you are towing.
I tow my 21ft CC with a GLK 350 short distances and you can really feel the load.
I also have a ML250 ( 4 cylinder diesel) which does the job much better with no issues.

GLK is the baby SUV, the GL should be adequate from a towing and family vehicle standpoint.

My wife drove a 2008 GL diesel (320 CDI) for over 100,000 miles. She loved it and it towed great. I pulled a Pursuit 2670 Denali with it with no problem at all. Plenty of torque from diesel and air suspension kept everything in good control. Only real complaint was that it went through an expensive set of tires every 25,000 miles.

I just picked up a 2013 GL350 diesel. I came from a Ford Expedition. I can't comment on towing yet, as I've yet to tow, but with the torque shouldn't be a problem. With the 3rd row seats down there is lots of storage space and they have tie down hooks built into the floor. When the 3rd row is up, storage space is not great. The diesel is super quiet and fuel consumption is great for the size of this vehicle. I haven't had any electrical gremlins yet, but have another year of bumper to bumper warranty and can extend the warranty up until the last day if problems start to creep up.

It's a great truck, quiet and very comfortable. Lots of electronics that can go haywire and nervous about how the air suspension will hold up over time. However, no problems so far. A very nice family hauler.

Have a friend who uses his to tow a 21' bassboat and says it does great. But I have no personal experience towing with one.
