Default Stolen Trailer Recovered

6 years ago my uncle returned at dusk from fishing and the trailer for his 23' Mako was gone. 6 years later this Saturday we were loading up from getting oysters and he recognized the trailer and the customizations he had made. No capacity plate and no plate on the trailer was suspicious. It was a commercial netter and he had just set his nets so we knew he would be back in the morning.

We came back with the title Sunday morning and found the serial number under the trailer. It match the title! Long story short, cops showed up, we recovered a poorly maintained trailer and hopefully will recover the money for the value of the trailer. Not to mention this is a felony larceny charge.

What are the chances of this. A cold and rainy Saturday afternoon. We were the only 2 boats at the ramp. 2 minutes earlier or later and we would have never seen the trailer...

We do not know if they were tipped off or what but they didn't come in Sunday morning. So the Marine Patrol went and got them. They told us to leave with the recovered trailer before they returned with the netters so they would not know what we looked like. I was told they came back with a boat full of spot, mullet etc and had no way to get the boat out of the water. The Marine Patrol did board and the vessel at sea and then arrested the owner of the boat at the dock.

1 scumbag down.....a bizzilion to go. Too bad he's a working stiff, still no excuse.

This illustrates how adversely these crimes affect us all, 6 years and still looking. I had an expensive, distinctivecoat stolen in a bar, never did see itagain, but I lost track of how many years I kept my eyes open.

Wow.......the guy got lucky using the stolen trailer for 6 years in the area in which it was stolen. Do you know if he stole it or if he bought it not knowing it was stolen?

Where was the trailer stolen from? Tell me it wasn't from the same ramp you found it 6 years later.

Coats and gf's stolen at bars and restaurants. That's fodder for a whole new thread.

INteresting story. I'd also be curious if he bought it or actually stole it.

The guy has admitted to stealing the trailer. He stole it from a private ramp in Beaufort that is no longer open. I am sure he thought, cold rainy day, there will be no one around. But the one other boat at the ramp...it is good to be able to stop looking.

Wow, you should run out and get a Powerball ticket , what are the odds of finding it 6 years later !! I'm glad they got caught, I hope you get the money for the repairs out of him at least.

I parked my trailer for a week at the marina at Tahoe Keys a couple of years ago in their lot--lots of trailers. Records got screwed up and we had to look for my trailer, found it, but they were reluctant to release it without documents. when I asked what was going on, the yard guy told me about a guy from San Francisco that had stored his trailer there for a week. In the meantime another guy had his trailer there, they couldn't find it and it was reported stolen. A year later the guy from SF comes back and tells them that the trailer he has is not his. Of course, it was the stolen trailer. Go figure!!
