2020 Ram 3500 DRW

Loving my new Tow Vehicle.

2020 Ram 3500 DRW. I really wanted the Mega Cab, but those are almost non-existent in the DRW package. I also wanted the 6.7L Cummins HO, Aisin Transmission, Air Ride Suspension and the 4.10 gears (Max Tow package). Had a go at searching all over the place, finally found this beauty in Greer, SC. Drove up and traded my 2018 Ram 2500 Power Wagon on it.

Nice color (RV Match Walnut Brown Metallic).

Would have been nice to get the "sport" package with body matched accents, but the small amount of chrome on the front does not bother me.

I've already gotten rid of the chrome side steps, replaced them with the AMP Research Power Steps, and an AMP Research Bed Step. I have the Roll-N-Lock bed cover / cargo management system on order. Looking at wheel / tire combos to get rid of the stock 17" Steelies that are on it now.

2,000 miles on it so far, this thing is a beast. 400 hp, 1,000 lb/ft of torque... gobs of power. The Aisin has a strange shift compared to my 2018 3500 DRW... but all in all, I love this truck. Last truck I will ever buy.

Congrats! Hell of a truck. Youíll like the long bed if your hauling. The back seats so suck in the dodges. The wifeís getting a new expedition and the 3rd row is more comfortable in it than the dodge Laramie we own. What wheels you getting? 6 of them or staying with the steel inner in the rear? Love the color

I'm doing a set of either Alcoa 20" or Fuel 20". Moving up to 285/60/20 Nitto Terrain Grapplers or Toyo AT3's... I don't want to go TOO big, but the 20" with 285/60 tire is a nice compromise. It will definitely make the rear tire footprint wider, so flaps are on the way. Definitely going black.

Changing the front / rear bumpers out... looking at Fab4 or Road Armor... adding a big Warn Winch up front. I'm doing a Carli levelling kit, but keeping the back the stock ride height.

I pull an ATC 40' Toy Hauler... and my World Cat 250DC.

These are not my pictures, but these are the tires I'm going with. The wheels are on my list, but not sold on the model. A bit flashy for my taste... but I like the stance of the truck. This is stock ride height, no lift.

Yeah, glad I went with the 8' bed now, no slider needed.

As for the back seat, it's definitely comfortable, but the DRW with the Max Tow package makes it rough back there. The air bags help but I would not want to ride in the back for long. Good thing it's just the Wife and me, and our two GSD's. They don't complain too much about riding in the back. LOVE the fold down "shelf" in the rear.

The Aisin 1 2 shift takes some getting used to. It pulls like a freight train though. The heavier the better.

Nice truck. How was your experience with the dealer?

Bought it from Benson Ram in Greer, SC.

The sales guy (AJ) was awesome. Left us alone, answered questions when we asked. I was already pre-qual'd with financing from my bank, so I knew what I would pay. I was searching for the 6.7L HO / Aisin / 4.10 gears Ö this one had the air ride suspension and my Wife loved the color. We test drove it, and it was it.

They gave me above my pay-off on the Power Wagon too, which was nice. Sticker was $68k, we rolled off the lot MUCH less than that. They sold my Power Wagon that same day. Don't, know what they sold it for, but know what they gave me for it. All in, I'm happy with the deal we got.

Very nice. I'm about half way between them and Spartanburg Dodge. No bad experiences with Spartanburg on the very few times i've used them, but had a complete falling out with my home down dealer last year. Good to hear they treated you well.

I live in Camden, SC... so, Lugoff is my closest dealer. I did not buy the extended service upon closing, I will add it third party later this year. This truck is a BEAST for sure. Love it!

We are up in Spartanburg / Greer all the time... wife's parents live there. I'm active duty Army, stationed at Shaw AFB until I retire. Let me know if you ever want to hit Charleston and fish... we have a World Cat 250DC.

Not to be a party pooper...I bought my first Ram 2500 w/Cummins in 2018. Bought it brand new. Now, at 70kmi, I'm staring at $6000 in repairs due to DEF sensor and tank issues, a turbo cleaning and poss particulate filter replacement. Up until then, I was happy with mine too...Now, not so much.

Best of luck with her. She looks great.

Awesome. We are right between hwy 29 and Reidville Rd, very close to Upward's sports complex.

In the other direction from you, but if you every need anything major done, I can't say enough good things about Addy's Harbor in Myrtle Beach. Hometown dealer royally screwed up a engine replacement on my 1/2 ton last year, and they took care of business and worked with Chrysler to make things right. With all the big campers that come through that area, they have a team on staffed well versed on trucks, and evidently a big parts inventory.

Sometimes it's just easier to delete some of that hardware--if you're looking at $6K out of pocket repairs. Our son in law has a fully deleted 3500 with a first rate tuner, and his truck is performing incredibly well @ 236k miles.

I wonder how much firmer it will ride with the shorter sidewalls? I just installed the Toyo RT's and really like them.

My 2013 6.7L had no issues with the DEF... this one, I'm following my previous protocol. I buy DEF directly from Ram, at the dealership. I pay $10 per gallon for it, and I never put more than a half of a tank of DEF in at a time. DEF can crystalize and cause pump failures, that's a known issue. I'm on top of my maintenance, so fingers crossed that this one gives me years of trouble free service.

My Brother is a Certified Cummins Tech, triple ASE Master, Heavy Diesel Tech for our home County Fleet Management. He's pretty much schooled me on these new Cummins engines... Sorry you had issues... I'm not a fan of the DEF system, but I will keep mine intact until it's out of warranty.

I go overboard with oil changes... I run the Valvoline Premium Blue 5W-40 and Mopar oil filters... I change the oil every 7,000 miles religiously. I changed it for the first time at 1,500 miles... out of habit. The power this thing has is nuts!

Love those wheels! I run the AT2 on my Laramie and have rotated the outsides to the front only 1x. 40k miles and have about 15K left. Awesome grip. Got a little louder but not bad. They hookup in anything. Great hauling tire to Montana and back pulling our 40ft. Straight as an arrow. Run 5lbs in the bags if it lets you. I have aftermarket bags and 5lbs empty makes the truck a lot better. Gets you some squish so not too sudden of a hit over bumps. All the diesels have issues. The ram 3500drw is the most common dually on the road. With that it will seem like it has more issues but they all do. Look at the long haul guys pulling Campers across country for a living. Dodge dodge dodge. Maybe a Ford F450 but very few of them. Some Chevys but not a lot. We have averaged 10k towing miles for the last 4 years. Have seen a lot of rigs

liveaboard74 09-21-2020 08:24 PM

2014 Dodge ram lamarie, asian 4.11s and I'll tell you how to get your ride back. Drop the second spring. Thats a old school trick we use to do back in the 70s to get the trucks riding better. You lose the bounce but your air bags make up for it. Mine rides like a 1500 when I'm not loading her down. Lance 1191 alone i'm 14000 pounds before hooking to a boat or the race trailer.

Like your wheels, would match my black over silver two tone really well. Its my daily driver now. Love my dodge. Added a 12" Fusioin bass cannon in the rear with adjustable tuner up front. Talk about waking a stereo up. :)

Don't think I have a picture of it but something to get is tail gate ladder. I have one on mine. Drop the tail gate, one hand flip over the ladder off the side you can walk up and down that ladder getting in the ass end. They are on e bay. Love mine. That hopping up and jumping then spinning around days are over for me. :) Makes life so simple.

Here ya go. E bay.

What is your mpg when towing and not towing?

Iv got a similar package and the rear end gear hurts this truck on the highway. I just ran it empty yesterday for a little over 400 miles at 70-75mph and was at 13mpg. Pulling my 20k 5r Iím at 7-9 depending on how fast I pull and the terrain. Same pull but 65-70mph as I did yesterday is about 8-8.4mpg (all hand calculated). Be interesting to see if the brand new truck is any different. OP, I am around 50k on my AT2 and they have been great. Not any louder than the day I bought them. Rotate outside rears to front and vise versa. Inside rear steel stays put and its actually the best looking tire on the truck. I wish they all looked that way. Could get another 20k on them if so. Current tread Iíll change out around 10k

Snowwolfe 10-11-2020 04:12 PM

I been eyeing a 2020/2021 F450 and the MPG reported by owners seem much better.
Thanks for the feedback.
