Default Trailer bunks extending beyond trailer frame

So I might be living under a rock here. I havenít seen this until I started offshore boat shopping. Every boat Iíve owned (4) since 2002 the boat and bunks sat flush with the end of the trailer frame. Since I moved to SC Iíve been looking for a bigger offshore boat. Quite a few Iíve checked out the bunks extend Well over a foot beyond the end of the trailer frame. Does anyone know the exact reason for this? Initially my first and second guess were it was the wrong trailer for the boat or The boat manufacturers where trying to do this to save cost on building a bigger trailer. I then seen higher end brand new boats with the same setup. I wouldnít feel comfortable with the transom and motors of my boat being held up by overhanging bunk boards. Iím sure thereís a reason for this, I just donít know. Anyone?

Some will say itís because the trailer manufacturers want to save money.

if you are using heavy pine or cypress bunks, a foot or so past the frame is fine. The mounting points on the cross beam are at the center of the weight anyway, and you will have no issues.

Iíve seen some lower cost trailers run those bunks waaaay more than a foot past the frame. I donít love that design.
