Sorry - I was out spending $210 on a new receiver and ball!?! Damn these things got expensive. Made in the US, not from rusty old recycled Toyotas. New one is rated for 18k. My boat is 8,500.

Nice. Makes sense now. Original was not rated for the load. Ratings have some tolerance which is why it worked as long as it did. Good that you noticed and corrected. The new one should not have the same problem. Solid forged drawbar, right?

There was another hitch thread on here and I looked up the brand being discussed. They had models for over $1k.

They had a payment plan option, for a damn hitch!

I had a 10k hitch bend on me when transitioning from a construction zone with 2 inches of concrete groundoff to an overpass with the metal joint while towing my Cat at 25 mph....

Air Bags solved that issue.

The receiver and draw bar on my truck cost over 1K, custom hitch welded to the frame.
The receiver that come with most trucks have no where near the capacity of the vehicle tow rating. I had a Dodge dually diesel Xcab DRW, the factory hitch was rated for 5,000 lbs, my present truck the factory hitch that came with the truck was rated for 5,000 lbs, 2003 Ford CC F4 DRW 7.3 diesel, check your receiver make sure the weight carrying capacity is greater than what you are towing, no sense in putting a 10,000 lbs draw-bar in a 5,000 lbs receiver.

For me, the limiting factor is the ball. Cat V hitch rated at 18K, draw bar rated at 20k, ball only rated for 10K. Think that was the biggest baddest ball I could find. Who makes them rated higher?

10K is about it for a 2". Step up to 2 5/16 and you can go up quite a bit. These are all 30K. https://www.etrailer.com/dept-pg-Hit...eter_Ball.aspx
