Default Looking for a 996 Turbo S

Anyone have anything they are considering selling? I know what's available online.

Looking for something 6spd and under 50k miles. Location doesn't matter. Willing to pay NADA retail but not much more.

I will ask around and see if I know of anyone selling one. IMO they are one of the best buys in the P-Car world right now!

Yeah I've seen what they had a few decent things but I would prefer something stock or close to it.

Looking for an S only at this time. It's going overseas to a close friend and that's what the demand is there now.

I am sure you have checked out rennlist, 6speed and Pelican parts forums ...

I know Vinnie from Gulf Performance has a few in Pompano .. His own personal cars..

Not sure if he is selling but you could call him... also maybe call Taylor from Tuners in coral springs ...

Good luck on the search

Thanks!

I'm close on one in the Carolina's but it's not a coupe....which is my preference. Might just have to pull the trigger on it before prices get even worse.

they used to be a great buy until about 4 years ago when everyone realized they were making any more air-cooled Porsche's. Could get a low miles 98 996 for under 30k, now they are astronomical.

I just bought another 993 C2S, kicking myself for waiting given what I had to pay.

On another note, are any of you getting new GT3?

agreed, especially with the 10 year warranty PCNA announced.

I have a mexico blue 991 GT3....and while I love manuals, the PDK is too sublime on the track to ever want to go another direction!

Although, in saying that, I just had to replace a PDK in my GTB1 cayman. 14k.

Well, the 996 is the red-headed stepchild of the Porsche lineage unfortunately. Ironically, it was still the pinnacle of Porsche engineering at the time, so performance-wise they're incredible cars. Porsche just botched the styling a bit.

The 996 Turbo however is a much better looking car than the base versions, because the nose and other treatments change the styling quite a bit. It also has the Mezger engine so no IMS/RMS issues. A buddy of mine just bought an '04 (I think), and the car is quick. Even a base 996 is still a great car. I've seen mint, low mileage examples in the $20K range, and it's still a high performance car, even by today's standards.

Turbo's can still be had in the $40K range, and it's a lot of car for the money. They are absolutely going to continue going up in value because pricing of the air-cooled cars has gone stratospheric. If I would have known that a '94 3.6 Turbo, that could be had in the $50K range, was going to increase in value to the $200K+ range, I would have bought every one that came up for sale and put them in a climate controlled warehouse. That can be said for any air-cooled turbo these days. I just wonder if the pricing will hold up.

Seeing what my prior '78SC and '85 Carrera Targa are now selling for makes me want to throw up.

Same with the original widow maker the 930. Bought mine 15 years ago for 20k and I have turned down 90+ at a few car shows. Probably could get more if it were still stock, but I went nuts and built an efi system and all the goodies on the inside and it makes 706 at the wheels , weighing in at 2800 # s it's an animal. Been trying to find an 02 gt2 which could have been had for 60k 4 years ago are now 90-100+. Good luck with your search

You might talk with Millenia Motors in the Orlando area. I've never done business with them but I think others on here have. They sometimes get some interesting stuff. Here's one. Not S though and a cab.

Keep an eye on Bring-A-trailer. There have been a few 996Ts crossing the block in the last few months. Fun website, the peanut gallery is filled with P car veterans and most cars get vetted pretty well during the 6 day auction in the comments section.
