Default New feature - mod your own post?

Not sure is this part of the forum is just for problem, or if suggestions are also welcome.

What I'd like to suggest, would be a code modification, but a very useful one!

Allow the "Thread Starter" for any thread the authority to delete posts to 'his' thread!! You could even include buttons for WHY he feels he needs to delete the post, such as "OT", "derogatory", "useless info", "political". This would stop threads from getting bilged just because of one or two posters.

The other advantage is that now you can also track/record users who are constantly posting OT, derogatory, useless or political posts when not warranted. If a user starts compiling significant numbers of his posts that are getting deleted for these reasons, then they are prevented from posting anymore. Would make mods jobs a lot easier and keep threads "clean" and appropriate.

What do you think? Something we can or should do??

Threads don't usually get Bilged for 1 or 2 posters but rather that the subject has morphed into the usual piss fest, devolved into politics, overcome with personal insults, inuendos, or the myriad of other anti-social rantings some members extol. Best analogy would be with that scheme it is tantamount to having the inmates running the asylum.

Nope. Censorship is not a good idea.

The OP doesn't indicate ownership. Threads belong to the whole community.

If there is an issue with a post, press the Report Post button and the mods will attend to it as they can. Eventually the problem posters get weeded out and things move nice and smoothly.

What I'm suggesting is that perhaps they should have some "ownership" or maybe a better term is "stewardship" of a thread THEY start. THEY have an interest in keeping it on topic

And the value to that whole community could go UP if there was less drivel added to threads

We see how well that works now (not!). Can't imagine how much work that is to moderators too.

Pics courtesy of Photobucket?

Gavels have come down on both sides.

Threads generally are the IP of the OP or the host.

I`m also waiting for my check from the bailout.
You too?

Cheers,
Kemper

Not censorship but more like stewardship. Not unlike how a moderator for a panel discussion keeps the topic focused and valuable for the attendees, or a debate moderator allows both positions to be represented.

You miss that month in marketing 101?
If it bleeds it leads.
Drama sells.

Little House On The Praire has its place but THT ain't it.
