Default Viewing photos - photobucket error

On some of the threads, rather than seeing photos, I get "Please update your account to enable 3rd party hosting" image from photobucket. Sometimes, If I follow the link, I will be able to view the images.

Its happening on this 2014 Cobia 256 listing:
http://www.thehulltruth.com/boats-sa...bia-256-a.html

Given that I am not hosting any images (just viewing) - is this a technical issue between THT and Photobucket, or are users required to become photobucket members to post photos also?

Sorry if this has already been covered, but I searched, and didn't find a thread on it from a viewer's perspective.

I wasn't paying much attention but I recently read something about photo bucket starting to charge for certain features.

Yes, Photobucket flipped a switch today without warning to extort $400 per year for the images to continue operating as before.

The service I've been using they call 3rd party hosting, shown in this price list as $400 per year

It's photobucket, not THT.

They have migrated over to a pay service.

I recommend using imgur.com

THT should cough up the extortion funds for all members to restore all the linked-in images.

Default Third party Hosting

Is there any updates on this issue? The pictures along with the post are the most beneficial aspect of the forum.

You can post a picture directly to THT without the need for any 3rd party.

THT cannot do anything about this, it is photo bucket. Each person would need to make an invidual choice to upgrade their photo bucket account.

I have upgraded my personal photo bucket account but am still having trouble viewing anything on THT that is posted via photo bucket. Its just a bummer b/c the pictures are so helpful...hopefully something will change but I know the chances are slim.

When you upgrade yours it makes your pictures viewable. Not others.

What magic did THT perform to restore the images that were obliterated by the Photobucket extortion?

An example is this topic that had my Photobucket images, but now has all of those images replaced w/ THT attachments. That fix was not done by me.

My assumption is that there was a global fix applied to the forum, how was that done?

My friends on a car forum I frequent would love to implement this fix too.

Thanks much.

I wish I could tell you; there is some way to manipulate the PB url to trick it into leading back to the pb photo, copying it and setting it as an attachment on our site. No idea how my techs did it but they looked at a lot of photos here and "fixed" them (not all of them though).

Tell your friend to google it.

Default Flickr agrees to be acquired by SmugMug - what this means for you.

FYI, when the PB plan changed to Internet extortion, I switched to Flickr.

An E-Mail notification was received today stating that Flickr was sold to Smug Mug.

Here are the Smug Mug terms. Nothing jumps out as horrible to end user forum usage in this legal gumbo soup.

Here is the notification letter:
We’re excited to announce that Flickr has agreed to be acquired by SmugMug, the photography platform dedicated to visual storytellers.
SmugMug has a long history of empowering people who love photography and who want to improve their craft, making them a perfect fit for Flickr and our creative community. With SmugMug, we’ll continue to focus on you, the Flickr members who inspire us all with your work.

Nothing will change immediately with regard to your Flickr account. You will still access Flickr with your current login credentials and you will have the same Flickr experience as you do now. We will continue to work to make your Flickr experience even better.

We think you are going to love Flickr under SmugMug ownership, but you can choose to not have your Flickr account and data transferred to SmugMug until May 25, 2018. If you want to keep your Flickr account and data from being transferred, you must go to your Flickr account to download the photos and videos you want to keep, then delete your account from your Account Settings by May 25, 2018.

If you do not delete your account by May 25, 2018, your Flickr account and data will transfer to SmugMug and will be governed by SmugMug’s Terms and Privacy Policy.

Read more detailed FAQs about this transition on the Flickr Blog.

We’re happy that Flickr is your home for photography and we look forward to the next chapter in our adventure together as we join the SmugMug family.

Thanks,
The Flickr Team

Oh, the switch comes w/ a charge, starting at $3.99/month (billed annually) or $5.99/month (billed monthly).

With the recent THT update there is no reason to host photos with a 3rd party.

Click the little "picture" icon and upload directly to THT.

That is valid and valuable. I concur w/ your recommendation for users to do exactly those steps on this forum.

For my usage, a superior solution is to use an image hosting service where I can drop albums of images for usage on THT, or any of the other forums I frequent. For me, it is one-stop-shopping to locate and links, or to upload, then link my image.

My albums have thousands of images on many different subject matters, not just boating, so that terrific THT upload feature isn't the solution that works best for my images.

Long ago, PB was a good solution. Then it became barely usable, w/ advertising popups that were faster than could be closed. Then on June 30, 2017 they destroyed all the Internet images.

The Flickr solution that I selected had a short learning curve, but has been acceptable for usage and for the free cost.

This is from their FAQ, saying that it will remain free for now.

- Will Flickr continue to offer a free version? Will Flickr’s price change?

- Absolutely. Flickr’s free accounts are foundational to its community of influential and engaged photographers. We are not making any changes to Flickr plans or rates at this time. We’ll let Flickr Pro customers know if that changes.

Default Welcome To The New Photobucket!

According to the Photobucket web site:
Photobucket has new management, and we are liberating your images!

As of today, your hosted images are live.

Photobucket has a new management team that wants to do the right thing. We are committed to earning back your trust and offering comprehensive and flexible image storage and hosting options for our customers. We’ve taken your feedback and made some changes to our pricing model that allows us to offer competitively priced plans that fit the needs of all of our customers.

Today, our current customers’ hosted images have been restored and Photobucket is introducing a new pricing plan that is built around everyone’s needs.

For a limited time, we are offering a new, competitive subscription package that includes ad-free storage and 3rd party image hosting for just $1.99 per month, or $19.99 per year - which is 95 percent less than the previous pricing model. A free subscription option will still be available to customers who do not require 3rd party image hosting.
Here is their new pricing plan.

This may have been posted before but I'll post again.

This extension makes all ransomed Photobucket images visible to the user. It does not access or collect any user data.
I tired the Firefox version and it works. This isn't my discovery just passing it on....
