again, not a nascar hardo but slightly more than a casual fan..... I thoroughly enjoy the race. however, I know you can't prevent weather but nascar has to do something about how they handle it. start race, 14 laps, crash, turns into a 6 hours delay.... F that.
I went the rink later in the evening for a hockey game but was pleasantly surprised to see the race still on when I got home. watched the last 10 laps or so of the 2nd stage and all of the 3rd.
I dig jeff gordon and clint bowyer doing commentary. i found them extremely insightful, interesting, enjoyable to listen to and they were able to dumb it down for non gearheads.

Can't really agree with this view.
NASCAR has been around since 1948 and has NEVER had a fan fatality at a race that was attributed to NASCAR negligence.
The cars that were flying into the air in 87-88 were so aerodynamically unstable that something surely needed to change.
Fast forward 30+ years and I say they've gone to far.

I was in Charlotte when the walkway fell after the race, it was not NASCAR negligence but the track paid dearly .

There really has been no racing at the Daytona 500 for several years.
The low horsepower / high downforce package they run slows the cars down so much that they can only 'pass' by slowing down the car in front.
Watch the 'highlight' videos, the only thing on them is restarts and crashes.
Top speeds at the big tracks are down about 30mph from the peak in 1987. NASCAR is afraid to go fast

The 1 1/2 and 2 mile tracks they actually faster than in 1987 . Quite a bit actually.
