Which is millions of people not watching. Imagine that.

Thats with the SB champs and 2 of the highest paid players playing.

The initial wave of NFL ratings for Thursday night’s season kickoff have arrived, and the preliminary numbers are down for the NFL. However, the event was the most-watched sporting event since the Super Bowl, and only the second show since the Super Bowl to exceed 20 million viewers. (The Academy Awards in February averaged 23.9 million.)

According to Deadline, the Kansas City-Houston game initially rated a 5.2 among adults 18-49, the key demographic for advertisers, and boasted a preliminary total of 16.4 million viewers. At the moment — ratings are adjusted upward as more reports roll in — that’s a 16.1 percent drop from last year’s kickoff between the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears.

As more numbers came in Friday afternoon, NBC reported a total audience of 20.3 million viewers, down from last year’s 22 million in the same timeslot. Overall, the game averaged a nationwide rating of 11.2/23, down from last year’s 12.8/26.

Fantasy was the only thing that kept me having some semblance of communication with 11 of my college friends who I have been In a league with for 18 years. I enjoyed my fantasy league. The last two years that fantasy league was the only reason I gave two craps about NFL, and didn’t even watch a game. This year I couldn’t take it anymore and with a heavy heart I told them I was bailing on the league and done with the NFL for good. Turns out a couple other guys in there followed suit. Sucks, but eff the NFL.

Well there is a shocker! I'm willing to bet it wont get better after the antics during the opener.

Chief's fans made their displeasure clear and boo'd the crap of them.

Whitlock explains why they boo'd and why so many will not tune into the NFL. According to Whitlock:

"Mystery solved. Chiefs fans aren’t stupid. They’re informed, passionate and fearless. They love Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid, Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill. But they love their country more than the foolish players who have swallowed Black Lives Matter’s ideology, propaganda and vision for America.

Social media and the athletes addicted to Twitter and Instagram define BLM as a long-overdue fight for racial equality. Many Americans see BLM for exactly what it is — a clever disguise for Marxists and anarchists who seek to destroy American freedoms — and those citizens are growing more comfortable expressing their disdain for the BLM movement.

The booing you heard rejected BLM, not unity. The booing you heard rejected the rioting, looting, violence and in-your-face harassment associated with the BLM movement."

Well...

1) Competing with a prime-time NBA playoff game.

2) Not the final numbers. Certain viewers are not counted until later. They will go up in final count. You also rounded up.

3) Huge digital viewership which was not included in that “drop”.

Take a look at ratings after this weekend,
and say a quarter of the way into the season. When the data is more robust.

Having been conditioned by my environment/peers/society to believe I was "supposed to" I once upon a time watched both NFL and baseball until one day in 1994 I had a bit of an epiphany....."man I sure could be doing a lot of stuff instead of laying on the couch getting fatter." So not a game since.

The political agenda/no NFL for me bandwagon thing aside - I wonder if the typical fan has any inkling of where the big salaries come from.....coddled millionaires living on the backs of peasants.

FishNFool just hammering away. You couldn’t write your own breathy sentence to exhibit your vocabulary while stating nothing of substance, so you quote “Whitlock”. BLM is one thing. Rioters and looters are another thing. Marxists are another thing. Anarchists are yet another thing. And none of that involves “destroying Merican’ freedoms”. Copy and paste some more hot garbage. In fact, the closest thing to anarchy is the QAnon/4Chan/Boogaloo movements comprised of angry white guys. Players taking a knee is peaceful protest, plain and simple. They didn’t burn a flag or break a window. Yeah, you don’t have to join in. Yeah, they should condemn rioting and be more outspoken about other issues in their communities... but that doesn’t cancel their concerns here. So many dudes talking about triggered snowflakes and whiny entitled people while exhibiting whiny triggered behavior.

I thought taking a knee was subservient.

When did it become a protest?

Oh the irony... Says the the guy that is whining about fans that refuse to watch while regurgitating liberal propaganda, nevermind that you have trouble forming tangent coherent thoughts.

As I said, you are pathetically insufferable and your idelogical musings are not worth using up bandwidth to reply.

You have yet to make any material statements to support your position or refute mine. I’m still not sure what you stand for, other than ill will. You are incapable of engaging in an honest discussion or providing anything other than a run-on sentence with egotistical vocabulary. My tangent coherent thoughts upset you so much you’re “using up bandwidth to reply”. I feel bad for people so unaware. With the most posts of anyone on this forum it’s clear you cannot control yourself.

Breaking news...the NFL announced today that because of lost revenue due to kneeling an NFL team must be cut. Tampa Bay and the Packers will combine teams to become the Tampacks. They’ll be good for only one period, and have no second string. Ed

Streaming of the game was up 55% so its hard to say if viewer ship was down.

I've watched two games and have only seen one BLM last Thurseday night and the fans booed. I don't watch the pregame stuff so that might be why. I know they have something on the back of their helmets but its so small I can't see what it says. I'm watch as long as it stays this way but I'm ready to turn it off at anytime. Plus my Skins came back from 17-0 to win 17 to 27. Maybe we finally have the right coach.

For those of you who insisted NFL ratings would be down this year:

https://www.sportsmediawatch.com/201...s-fox-nbc-cbs/

And that’s without the streaming increase.

I think we can close the door on this part of the conversation now.
