The Fulmer Curse.

Itís bad, man. Last year there were a few bright spots (wins against Auburn, a ranked KY) that showed promise. All I was looking for this year was 6-6 since we have an unproven coach in year 2. Thatís not going to happen. Thereís just not a lot of intensity and a lot of the players look lost. I donít know what the answer is, but this is painful to watch. Glad I didnít buy tickets this year.

Yep. I agree, UT fans could not get rid of Fulmer quick enough for some reason and as they say Karma is a BITCH

Kind of like FSU now, they wanted Jimbo out of town and look at them now

With that screen name, youíd better not be a Georgia fan!

How bad is Miss St. if they lost one to us? The wife is happy for her Gamecocks. We just need LSU to put the Lizards away tonight and it will have been a pretty good football day.

Mixed emotions but actually happy for the gamecocks and their fans. I actually called this one earlier and people laughed at me. U5C always plays UGA tough and even better between the Hedges. UGA played like crap but you have to give credit to U5C for making them play that way Hell on top of that beat them with 3rd string QB

Looking forward to LSU v UF. Should be a good one

And two months later weíre 6-5 with a game left to play. Who saw this coming after the first 3 games? Not me. Credit to Pruitt for getting his guys turned around and JG for silencing the doubters with his play. Itís nice not being the SEC dumpster fire this year.

And speaking of dumpster fires, how about NC State this year? 1 win in the dreadful ACC.

We are Godawful in all sports. Or, at least the two that matter

I hope Donut Dave is shitcanned tomorrow after UNC waxes us in front of a 90% empty stadium.

Well actually, they don't have a good recruiting base and their period of success is dependent on other programs in the SEC being down. Most of their success under Fulmer was while Bama was wandering the wasteland of Dubose, Franchione, and Shula.Tennessee doesn't have any inherent advantages.

Now you wanna talk about a program that should be good and is often mediocre, Texas is where its at.

Despite a down year this year, Dave Doeren is probably the best coach NC State has ever had, and definitely the best coach they've had in almost 20 years. State is never gonna shell out 5 million plus a year for a coach.

Weeks in AP top 25
2017 & 2018: 12 weeks
2002 through 2016: 4 weeks

W-L vs P5/BCS in 3-year increments
2004-06: 8-17
2007-09: 9-17
2010-12: 13-13
2013-15: 6-19
2016-18: 17-13

And in the all important recruiting arena:

Including 2020, Doeren has 11 blue chip recruits in 3 years. In the 10 years before his first full class, NC State signed 10 blue chips.

State has never had what I'd call a good football coach...maybe Dick Sheridan, and definitely Lou Holtz I suppose. Fact is we've always been less than mediocre with brief flashes in the pan.

Dave Doeren is an example that looks great on paper. Over the past few seasons (this year's Trainwreck not included), our ACC record is second only to the Clemson Tigers. Which is unfortunate considering our path to a championship leads through them. And that'll never happen.

But the ACC is beyond terrible. And in 7 years Dave has not won A SINGLE game against an opponent that finished in the top 25 (we beat a ranked UL and FSU in 2017 but they went on to have horrible seasons).

Outside of beating UNC like a drum (which if I'm honest counts for alot as a State coach, which hurts us more than helps us in my opinion), Dave has not stepped up and won a single big game in his time in Raleigh. And his supposed best team with an NFL QB finished last year getting their collective peepees smacked (again) by Jimbob Fishbrook and TAMU.

0-8 in his first year, 1-7 ACC win this year (likely). The Wolfpack faithful are tired if injuries and youth as an excuse, and in particular the Lifetime Rights holders feel pretty swindled at this point, which they should.

Your post and data it think are spot on, so I'm not arguing that. I just think it's an example of something that looks good on paper but doesn't pass the eye test. State fans haven't had any excitement, save for the UL night game and the Clemson sidelinegate near miss, since TOB was here. And he doesn't relate well to our fans (in fact he's pissed right many of them off).

Carter-Finley has a long tradition of being full every weekend. Not anymore. It was pathetic even when Clemson came to town, and I expect right many powder puff blue trolls there tomorrow. Or the stands will be empty and thus resemble Kenan Stadium and Kerliner fans dressed in their traditional gameday attire of aluminium bleachers.

I've debated this at length on PackPride.

The question you have to ask yourself, as always when talking of firing a coach, is: Who are you gonna get that's better?

I don't think there's anyone out there who is better than Doeren that State could actually get. Shoot, look at how much trouble Florida State and Tennessee have had with their coaching searches, and they have lots of success to sell to someone. And more money than State.

You are absolutely right. Personally I think we should have kept TOB, though we were about 10 years late on hiring him here

Doeren will always deliver consistent mediocre results, which is about all State has ever done.

Am I the only one that hates the color Orange? And that damned fight song, Rocky Top?

Despite what my handle name is, I'm still a Tennessean by birth. And I graduated college in Memphis--who's having a great football year finally.

I've too never been a Phil Fulmer fan, but my real dislike for the university's athletic program was instilled in me by my father. It started in the Johnny Majors days.

But the Big Orange is getting better as the year's gone on. Sometimes that's about all you can ask of a team.
