Default Roethlisberger done for season with right elbow injury

The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback will undergo surgery on his right elbow and be placed on injured reserve, ending the 37-year-old's 16th season just two weeks in.Roethlisberger injured the arm late in the second quarter of Sunday's 28-26 loss to Seattle. He did not play in the second half, watching from the sideline as backup Mason Rudolph took over.

This may be a blessing for Tomlin, as far as keeping his job.

He has not been an elite QB for a few years. He led the league in passing yards last year but he threw 47 million passes. He also led the league in interceptions.

Steeler fans have grown tired of the drama and his taking Wednesdays off, bashing other players on his radio show, running the play clock down to 1 second every play since he can't pre read a defense, and refusing to take snaps from under center for the last 2 years, thus minimizing any ability for play action.

Rudolph was graded out as a #1 although his arm strength in college deep to the outside was a little limp; but the weight room, nutrition and trainers can work on that.

It's a blessing. He gave us tons of great, fun times, and memories, But bye-bye

Perfect excuse for him to retire. Dude hasn't seemed to interested in playing for a couple years. Maybe the only player who seems less interested is Eli

Really? Have you seen any player on the Dolphins lately? Every last one of them looks like they could care less.

I am super disappointed that BR is out for the season. Steelers starting 0-2 and then losing BR.....can I get a refund on my NFL Ticket?

I don't think BR has lost his talent to play QB, he's a little slower and rarely leaves the pocket but he still has the skills IMO. Running the clock down to 1 second is because the defense can change their look at the last second, it's not because he can't read the defense it's because he wants to see if they change who is going to rush and who is going to go into coverage. Did anyone notice his elbow before he left the game, it had a strange looking lump on it. I knew as soon as I saw it that it was going to be a serious injury. Whether or not he can come back with the same abilities remains to be seen.

the issue Russ, he runs the offense and sets a terrible example by the Wednesday off and refusing to play under center. He just wants to chuck it. The NFL requires more than that to succeed

The talking heads on the talk shows are of course suggesting calling Kaepernick up. Several teams need a good arm. He’s not the one and hope they don’t bend.

Really sucks about Ben.
Having said that, Mason Rudolph did a pretty decent job stepping up and I for one dont feel too discouraged.
Ben will be back. He wants just one more ring.

That's not going to happen with that team till they get a new coach and shore up .Not even a top 8 in the AFC as we speak....

I'd be more concerned with John Conner's performance thus far. I think Rudolph will be ok after a couple games.

The time has come.

Same way, 16 years ago, Ben stepped in for Tommy Maddox and never looked back. I believe it was same scenario, rallied back to almost win (vs Ravens?). Then in his first few years had a string of wins that I believe was unheard of at the time

Rudolph is the future, i think it will be the same story as with Ben. This kid threw for 5k yards in 13 college games, he has his best receiver from that team playing for the Steelers (Washington). He will be amazing. I seriously think they can make the playoffs this year

People were talking shit when Ben got drafted, and his combine and skilset was not elite, but was a baller and did great things for Steelers. If it wasn't for conservative / inept coaching we would have won more

Excited to see how it pans out with Mason, very hopeful
