Default Anyone know how long the CG is taking to process Cpt license apps and renewals?

I am getting ready to renew my license, as it expires in August or September.

Another buddy is applying for his and is wondering how long he will have to wait.

We are in WA.

Anyone have a ballpark idea?

Thanks.

I just renewed mine last month, it too almost 4 weeks from the time i sent it to them to when I received it back and that was amazingly fast and I would not expect anyone to think this was par for the course.

The first time I applied it to about 7 weeks

Be sure to cross your T's and dot your I's because they want you application to be next to perfect.

Before you send it off, triple check that the doctor signed every form on you physical, this is one that gets a lot of people delayed

Good luck and tight lines

3 weeks the last time. That is the fastest ever. The tracking system works well as you can see what stage the process is in.

As already said, make sure the medical forms are perfect.

I emailed my app March 6th. It was accepted March 11th by the REC. Still hasn’t made it though security review at NMC. With the shutdown I think they are dealing with a lot of backlog.

My renewal submitted to REC Baltimore 2/18/2019. Accepted by REC Oakland 3/12/2019. "Ready to be screened" by Medical Evaluation Division, as of 3/28/2019.

Thanks for all the info.

I should have around 4-5 months from submittal to when my license expires, so it sounds like I wile have plenty of time.

I have been dragging my feet on the physical as last time I had to go to a work comp place to get it and it was a lousy way to spend 1/2 a day.

I wish there was a way for my regular doc to do it when they do my annual physical, but they don't have the hearing testing equipment.

You don't need any hearing test equipment unless you actually have hearing problems.

If you can hear a forced whisper from 5 feet away you don't have to take any hearing tests.

You need to call around to some maritime schools in your area and find out what doctor they recommend. It will make your life a lot easier.

Mine was submitted early march and took 3 weeks. The company I work for is big enough that we have someone in the coast guard dedicated to handling all of our stuff.

You want a doctor that does the exams for captains and pilots. They know the forms in and out, and the ins and outs to expedite the paperwork and medicals. Ask other captains in your area. They will likely be able to recommend a doctor for you. I would not recommend seeing your family doctor for this.

DOT approved testing. I suggest you call NACO if your not a member. Did you hear me?

If there is a SEA SCHOOL near you they can point you in the right direction unless your a truck driver.

Just got mine in the mail yesterday. New application for master 50 ton. Total turnaround time from email of application to MMC in hand was just over 2 months.

I e-mailed mine on 2/18. Acknowledged on 2/22. Received on 4/29. Several interim notices citing various stages within that period.

My 200 ton took 2 weeks from submission to my mailbox.

Make sure you do your license to be retroactive. In other words make it valid the day the old one expires.

It’s on the form somewhere.
