Default wire, rubber bands or springs with skirts.

We have this discussion every year while trolling? Most of the guys prefer springs when trolling bc of the ease when rigging. What's everyones preference and do you see a difference in how they swim or hook up ratio?

There is not even a question here. Wire is far superior to the others. The bait does not pull off when hit by a fish. This gives you a second chance at a strike. Use monol instead of cooper, it lasts much longer and doesn’t kink.

I use monel and that's why they complain.

Everyone has their opinion on this topic. I like springs because I can get 10 baits rigged in the time it takes even a good wire guy to rig 2. If the hook and pin are both positioned properly, I don't think there's any difference in the swimming action,

When every bite counts pinless wire rigs are my go to. When casual fishing I use either wire or springs.

I can't believe I'm that different. I use rubber bands. I threw away all my springs.

And a 1/2 oz chin weight. A big key is lightly squishing the meat from the bone. My swimming naked ballyhoo look better than a real fish, and I’m not that good at it.

I have poked my finger too many times on the tag end. that really smarts the next day. None of my rigged baits use the tag. I also rarely fish steel except on a downright.

Rubber bands for me! Swim great and fast to rig.
