Mahi Mahi. Great fight, beautiful sight of them jumping, and the best tasting fish.

I used to find them pretty hard to catch but I have a buddy who is Mr. Mahi and can put us on the Mahi pretty regularly. So some of these other fish like the Blue Marlin are cool but are not in the basket of fish that I can catch. I love catching Mahi.

Cobia are probably my overall favorite, largeish size, good to eat, very strong, but my usual spots haven't been holding them lately so I'll have to do something different (For nearly 10 years was getting minimum 1-2 each trip, released most). I usually target mangrove snapper because I can limit out on 5lb fish most trips. If I were on the east coast Mahi would be at the top of the list for me, but all I catch in central west coast FL is peanuts.

Inshore is snook, fun fight, go on multiple runs, can use light gear and tackle. Offshore is bluefin/yellowfin/bigeye tuna, they are big, strong, ornery and on stand up gear are a real test. Eat tuna mahi or wahoo depending on what I am doing to it.

Tripletail is pretty good. I do like the milder fish. Crappie(freshwater) or whatever you want to call them are delicious too.

Cobia for taste and fight ice down ASAP. BBQ my favorite
white trout fresh right there on the boat, simple fish fry and oil wonderful. not as good when they sit on ice.
speckled trout not as fragile as white trout but must keep on ice not water. these make it to the house.
flounder always wonderful can load up on these around the mudlumps
Pompano great when we catch them usually 65’ of water in east bay. Not often enough
grouper sandwich’s are always great
triggerfish ok
red snapper ok
mangrove snapper ok
lane snapper ok
sheepshead ok
spanish mackerel I use for cobia bait
king mackerel I release
wahoo no interest
dolphin no interest
tuna no interest
redfish good to eat small 16”/17” let the big ones go

Favorite to catch - kings on the right tackle and of course AJs.

Favorite to eat - pretty much whatever we caught that day.

Astronomical Dawn- 5 hours after and 5 hours before - Astronomical Dusk, I'm going to say Blue Marlin. All 14 other hours of the day my favorite is the purple gladiator. Why? There's no more worthy adversaries at those particular times.
