I drilled some holes and sanded down my old college coffee table.. it was just taking up space. It was a hand me down from my roommates parents, who also used it as a college coffee table. Thing was old!!! After I got the old finish off there was some decent wood underneath. Still going to sand it some more and stain it and put a couple coats of high gloss on it.

Well I finally started building the rack. Of course I didn't draw out a design so I just winged it. Not sure who measured the wall but it ended up being 3" too wide to fit, lol.

To keep it symmetrical I had to ditch my 2 extra rod holders so I shortened it up quite a bit. That's okay because I had a different design for the two side pieces anyway. So I took it apart and shortened the base and the 3 middle boards.

I like the way the sides look much better and it easily fit's against the wall now.

I stained it with minnwax red oak. I put two coats on and I really like the color. I'm going to let it dry tonight then I'll hit it with some poly tommorrow.

I like it. How did you make the cut outs for the rods? Did you drill holes, then rip the board down the middle of the holes?

Yep, that's exactly what I did. I have a 2x12 for the base, 2x10 sides, 2x8 slanted floor piece, and a 2x6 ripped in half for the rod holders. I did a 6" spacing on the holes and it worked perfectly for my reels. But next time I will probably do 7" spacing.

Default rod rack

Here is what I did. Had some live edge black walnut slabs laying around. I still have to put 1-1/2" bases in the bottom piece.

Wow. I like a lot of these. I just purchased a new house in Saint Augustine and was trying to decide what I could do that would be a little more permanent. I like the table/chest style but also like the rubber attachments along the wall to save space.
