Default Panama fishing options?

So I'm looking to possibly go fishing in Panama this summer. I've been to Mexico and Costa Rica so looking to try another place. My question is, are there any private charter guys down there? It seems like everything is a resort. When I've gone to those other countries I've always booked a private charter and set up my own accommodations. Go fishing then go out and venture in town. If there are private charters and recommendations? Also areas to look into to go fishing? Thanks for the advice!

I did Pesca Panama once and loved it. You live on a barge, so your runs to the fishing grounds are short. Great accommodations, great food, and great fishing. You can do inshore of offshore with them - up to you.

The fishy areas of Panama are pretty remote , no marinas or towns to go into . That's why there are so many lodges and resorts , you are usually an hour away from the nearest store . I fish with Shane when I'm there , but I stay in Boca Chica at Sea Gull Cove Lodge and do day trips with him from there . There isn't anything around there other than a few small resorts , lodges , and houses , and on Fri or Sat night ( can't remember which ) everyone from all the other places comes and hangs out at their Tiki bar dock there . It's a really cool place , and they take really good care of you there .

Shane fishes the Coiba/Jicarta/Montuosa areas , or wherever the YFT are . He isn't afraid to burn gas to find the fish , unlike the other guys . He runs Sport fish Panama Island lodge .... fishpanamatoday . com

I can unequivocally recommend Shane for offshore,. I was at SFPIL in February. The question would be if you can find an open booking date before July?

While I haven't fished with Shane, when I fished with Pesca Panama, I saw him out on the water almost every day. He has a very good reputation.

I'll throw in a recommendation for Shane Jarvis as well. I have been going to his place since 2010 and just got back yesterday from his lodge. Like pje said, if you don't want to do the lodge deal, staying at Seagull Cove and doing day charters with him is a great alternative. I don't personally have any experience with anyone other than Shane, I feel like I got lucky the first time around and stayed put. He's takes his guest out to catch fish and will burn all the fuel and daylight needed to put you on fish. He also fishes with well maintained, top of the line equipment, most of it is custom built from Black Fin rods and Accurate reels. You can book Shane with confidence. shane@fishpanamatoday.com

Default Panama

I have been twice to Panama, once to come fish panama and another time to panama sport fishing lodge. I had a better experience at come fish panama. Ran out to Hannibal banks everyday and got into schools of yellowfin everyday. Biggest fish was 140 pound yellowfin on top water. The lodging at come fish Panama was Great they even offer other excursions if you don’t want to fish everyday such as mountain excursions etc..... The first time I went to Panama I flew into Panama City and they picked me up at the airport and drove me 5 hours to panama sport fishing lodge it was cool to see the Panama Canal and the country side. A lot of tolls and definitely (sketchy) at times. Second time I flew into Boca Chica and that was very convenient. I would recommend you call in advance and see when the best times to go are, that makes a big difference. Help this hopes a little. The fishing in panama is epic..
