Default Florida Fishing Guide Recommendations

Have 2 Keys trips planned.

Early March - Duck Key / Hawks Cay

Mid April - Key West

Open to offshore or inshore

Would appreciate recommendations on guides and what fish to target during those times

Thanks!

Both months can be windy...so having a guy who can do back country insures you get a trip off

Mark Krowka. Islamorada..flats and back country..305 664 5437...... no web page
Jeff Malone Duck Key https://tarpontime.com/

Key West...Robert Trossett...or his son Chris.

Thanks

Have fished several times out of Islamorada and wondering why charters out of Duck Key look to be about 50% more expensive. Full day ~ $700 vs. ~$1100

Have fished several times out of Key West with 2 different guides, Michelle, from MySpearIt charters, and Craig, from Kingbird chaters. Both top notch guides with fair pricing, they both offer spearfishing, bottom fishing, yellowtailing etc. Highly recommend them both!!

Fished 2 days out of Marathon with Capt. Kevin and the boat next to his that he recommended as he was not available both days.

EPIC day on Tuesday catching Tuna, Bonita, Barracuda, Kingfish, Shark, Spanish Mackeral, a huge Jack and an unbelievable end of the day with two 100+ pound Tarpons.

Cold front moved in and slowed things down for Friday but my son caught a nice Cobia (his first) along with Spanish Macks and some Jacks

Thanks to Greg for the winning recommendation and everyone else who made a suggestion

Most of the other guides either did not return emails or phone calls

Stayed at Hawks Cay which was great and all in all a terrific Spring Break !

Glad you had a great time. Kevin was excellent for us too. Did you go with Ariel Medero? He is next to Kevin and highly respected too.

Hawks Cay is a great place. Haven’t been since the Hurricane. Glad to hear they have everything renovated and back open.

I was there for Thanksgiving last year and it sucked big time. Service was awful and so was the food. Room was so-so.

Florida Keys Fishing Guides Association

Key West Pro Guides

These two groups have lists of captains and you can choose what type of fishing you want to do and then pick a captain

Hurricane Irma wrecked Hawks Cay, Cheeca Lodge and many other buildings throughout the Keys. Last Spring Break HC along with Cheeca were still closed. Both are now open and look good. We had a very good time at HC. Our room was in the main hotel and overlooked the pool, lagoon and ocean. Room was big, high ceilings, was virtually brand new and we had no issues.

I'm not one that has high expectations for restaurants at a hotel or resort. I expect them to be expensive and mediocre. They are a convenience. Due to a flight delay we didn't get in until late and ate at one of the restaurants - Angler & Ale. Sat at the bar, talked to the 2 Jamaican bartenders about rum (my new hobby) and had an excellent meal of Conch Chowder and especially the Hog Fish. On my second visit, had a burger that was so-so. Never ate at breakfast place (I don't like buffets) or the fancy steakhouse since I would rather eat fresh seafood in the Keys and I have access to the best steakhouses at home. They have 2 pool bars that serve lunch/bar food. One open to everyone and one that is over 21 only (same with pools).

Choices are to stay in the main hotel or bungalow/townhouses that have more room. If I brought the whole family I would get a townhouse. Since it was just 2 of us this trip, the main hotel was more convenient. Some of the townhouses are somewhat remote from the hotel (big property), but they have golf carts that can be rented during your stay (looked big with the pre-driving teens)

The only possible negative is that when I received the final bill, the food & drink charges seemed more than I remembered signing-for. I requested copies there and a follow-up call and have not received them yet. Could be nothing, could be that they added tip automatically. I am slightly annoyed that they cannot seem to produce the checks. Otherwise the experience was great and I would not hesitate to stay there in the future
