You can renew if you use the new number from last year. I encountered the same problem when I bought a new boat 2 years ago. When I went to renew the following year my original boat came up. However when I put in my permit no. from the new boat in the search field, then my new boat came up.

Has anyone had luck getting a permit for their preowned boat which had a permit? I went about it numerous ways- using my name and trying to change my boat info, using the boat info and trying to change the name, and trying to buy new. Always says to call.

kingkeith,
I'm dealing with this now. I bought my Dad's boat before he passed away last fall. Tried to request a new permit. No dice. Just renewed his existing permit as a qualified representative of the permit holder. According to the "Help" page on the site, you can only update the information by speaking with them. I am calling tomorrow to request the name and address change.
Will circle back and let you know how I make out.
Regards,

I have a question? Why don't you just call?

It's a really quick fix when you call them. Literally takes to the nice lady on the phone for 1 minute and she had me fixed.

I’ve tried to call a few times, however their business hours are the same as mine and I rarely get the time during the work day. When I do call, I’ve ended up on hold for a while and eventually have to hang up.

I just did this. Called there 1(888) number first thing when they opened at 8 am. On hold for all of 15 seconds and the woman on the other end had the "change of owner" process complete in no time. Went back in and applied for a new permit, filled out all the required info, payed, and printed. Whole process was less than 5 minutes. Just call.

All good, I called this morning and the nice woman cleared the permit. She said to sign on as the previous permit holder/ boat owner and change the information and proceed to check out. It took all of 5 minutes.
