Default Waikoloa Hawaii (The Big Island) Charter

I will be traveling to The Big Island and staying at Hilton Waikoloa Village with my girlfriend from January 29, 2019 – February 6, 2019. I want to book a charter to do some marlin fishing (it’s my understanding that striped marlin should be decent that time of year). I am going to charter the whole boat for 8 hours and it will be just the 2 of us. Does anyone have recommendations for the best charter to book? I know some of the guys I have talked to say they pack snorkeling gear in case fishing is slow or we want to change it up ½ way thru the charter which would be a plus since she is not hard core into fishing.

Any other general recommendations for things to check out while there would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Josh

Pictures of wife and girlfriend would help.

You’ll be driving down the coast to Honokohau Harbor for your charter. Same area as the airport. The round-round trip is a fairly long drive so you might want to consider a 1/2 or 3/4 day instead. You don’t have to travel far from the harbor for good fishing so a 1/2 day is still a viable effort. The 31st would give you peak solunar during the morning and the 4th - 6th give you peak solunar mid-day (better for full-day charter). Also the 5th is the new moon so it could be pretty sporty.

After the charter go to Quinn’s Almost-By-The-Sea for an ono salad (local dive), or the Kona Inn for a dinner that’s sure to impress. If the Kona Inn have a Pina Colada, they make the best.

Josh,
Some dated (old) info in the link below... I haven't had a chance to fish w/ Russ yet, if I were over in Kona I'd try to hook up with Russ Nita "Lepika" 32' Force (local hull) just repowered. He has really smacked the Ahis hard in November. He'll troll for marlin; but he is very efficient at ahis, He'll run a stick (phenominal bites) if needed, But will troll lures or live bait whatever it takes.

Hawaii Charter

Cheers
Pat
