Default Puerto Rico fishing trip with son - DIY - suggestions?

Hi all,
In mid January I'm taking my son on a fishing trip to Puerto Rico.

Looking for input on what part of the island to concentrate on. We took a trip to the FL Keys last January and had a blast. We rented kayaks and an 18' boat with 115hp that wasn't too expensive and had a blast fishing the back country and catching jacks, mangrove snapper, grouper, sharks, etc. Was too windy to go offshore.

Anyhow, we're looking for suggestions on where in Puerto Rico might be out of the winter winds and provide some decent fishing similar to the Keys inshore reefs and backcountry. Are there boat rental places there also?

We're going the Airbnb route, I think, so we have a place with a kitchen and can enjoy some fresh fish dinners. Budget $4k all in for 8 days, so have to keep expenses down. Might consider a couple of half day bottom fishing charters if not too expensive.

Any info you think someone doing PR for the first time might benefit from would be great.

Hey Chris,
I've fished in PR some. My best days have been with Captain Poochy, Light tackle adventures
1 787-547-7380, out of Cabo Rojo on the west coast. He runs a skiff but also does kayak fishing in the mangroves for snapper and tarpon. He has kayaks for his guide customers. Maybe book a day with him then rent his kayaks for the week. He will put you on monster tapon if you go on the skiff.
I've got an Airbnb in Isabela on the north coast but it's a good hour from Cabo Rojo and more of a surfing town than fishing.
tight lines
