Default Penn squall 30vsw problem

Not sure if this is where this post should be but trying to figure out what wrong with this reel. Today while fishing offshore one of my newer squall 30vsw seemed like the gears where slipping while cranking in. We would reel it in and you would feel a thud and almost seem like you lost all drag for a split sec then it would reel normal. We tired to scream the bait back in as fast as you could and it never did it. Also if we put it in low gear it never did it. Reel is maybe a year old. Any ideas of whats going on???

Could the line be slipping on the spool?

I have the same thing happening with 2 of my 50 reels. Did you ever find out what the cause was? Thanks

I sent it to Ricks Reel Service on here. He went through it and said he didnt see anything wrong but the drag washer were really dry. I havent really had a chance to use that reel this year yet so idk for sure if that fixed it.

My shop said the same thing! But he told me if it does it again he will send it to Penns warranty center. So I'm dropping them off there Tuesday. I'll follow up once I find out what it is. It's annoying, low gear works fine.

Had the same exact thing happen on the 50 2 speed version as well. My friends reel so he took it to a shop and the shop didn't notice anything..... It was only a 20 pound blackfin, a 50 shouldn't have problems with that! And no the line was wound tight enough.
