Default Mann's Stretch Imitator ?

Has any body used this lure? Just saw the at the store and thought that they looked good. Do not think that it can be a very high speed lure- to wide. Colors looked good.

Also anybody had any of the other Mann's Stretch lures try to swim to one side. I have 2 and wondered what the fix is.

Picked one up the other day as well but yet to use it. Looks great as you had said. I believe Vin on the 3 V's has a few, I will PM him

Tried the Imitator last year ,worked good on Bass, I think it comes with a paper that tells you how to tune them so they ride straight, don't remember for sure,I'll have to look around.

i use a lot of stretch 30+ and 2 g50+...
i don't think you can tune it that easily if it tracks to one side... not like the metal lipped ones that you can adjust with a plier
what i'd do is use the mis-tracking ones to work with my spread...sometimes having a lure that tracks different also helps IMHO

no experience with the imitator still but it looks good

If your knot gets stuck on the gap on the split ring they will track funny. Make sure the gap is out of the way, remoing it also helps then tie on like a jig. ( modified bowlan )

Are you guys running these with braided line? I’m having a hard time telling when the lure is down deep (30'). I’m catching a lot of blues with them so I guess not deep enough.

Baitkiller
I had thought that about the split ring. I was thinking about taking it off and add a length of wire in front.

I have never run them on braid, but I am putting it on the reels this year.

RollerGuide
I guess that I can see witch way they track and write it on top of the plug. Love the plugs, but they can make a mess of your spread.

I troll two in my spread for stripers...I run them in tandem with a mojo...from the tri-swivel I run a 3' leader to mojo and a 8' leader to a ball bearing swivel to 8' leader tied direct to the stretch...I caught my first fish last night on one...Some folks like to run them 200 to 250' back all alone...as for the depth, stretch always determines there depth with 10-12 lb line...unless you are speed trolling these lures are not swimming in the 25-30' water column...that's why I like to run them in tandem with a 16-24 oz mojo...that way I can put them where I want them...

I troll stretch 25's in tandem with a spoon from a 3way. the strecth pulls down far enough to prevent the two from tangling. I dont run planer boards or outriggers so I generally run them short to keep from getting into my other lines. I also wll run a smaller inline trolling weight before the 3 way to keep the action a little more under controll too. This is a combo my father has run for years in NJ to catch stripers and slammer blues.

as for the depth, stretch always determines there depth with 10-12 lb line...unless you are speed trolling these lures are not swimming in the 25-30' water column...that's why I like to run them in tandem with a 16-24 oz mojo...that way I can put them where I want them...
So if I let out 200’ of braided line and cruise at 4-5 knots, a Stretch 30+ will not swim down 30’? I feel like the more line I let out, the more they rise up. This is just from judging the angle of the line. With a little line out (20’ or so) they swim almost straight down though.

If I remember correctly all the depth charts that came with mine are based on 50# mono (25+, 30+, and imitator) I troll them with 50# braid, equilvalent 16# mono. I rarely run over 4 knts. try to stay at 3. The 30+ will bump bottom at 35 ft. and the 25+ is actually hard to get to 25 ft. Right now it is perfect for those 20 ft deep flats around Raritan. Depending on tide sometimes I let out almost 100yds. Last year I was using 30# braid and moved up in diameter because the plugs were digging bottom to close to the boat, not sure it helped much yet. From my experience going against the tide lifts the plugs up, and they dive depper with less line going with the tide. Hope this helps.

BW28, how do you know when they bump bottom? When the rod jumps rapidly?

The Stretch 30+ is supposed to run 30 feet deep with 150' of 50 lbs. test out. Speed was 5-7 knots.

96TL,
Get the feel for rythmic beat of lure when you know it's not hitting ground. Then let line out in small intervals and thumb the reel for about 10 - 15 sec. inbetween until you feel it smack bottom. You will be able to feel the lure get stoppped and yes, the rod will jerk everytime it bumps. Next, lock up the reel and take a couple cranks, when the lure gets its rythym back, you'll know how deep it is.
What pooldoo said sounds like what I remember: 150' 50#mono = 30' depth

96TL,
where in Bklyn are you? I'm in Gravesend bay.

I dock in Mill Basin. My friend docks his boat in Gravesend Bay at Marine Basin Marina. It's a 2520 Parker with an F225 name "La Teresina".

I'll keep an eye out, I've got the carolina blue 2850 Bluewater, right by the gas dock @ Marine Basin.
See ya around
Did real well last night down in Raritan with the holographic chartreuse stretch 25+
doing just what I told you, run them just off the bottom.
