Default Canon Uni-Troll

I have a chance to pick up a couple of these up at a good price. They lack the base plate or mount. Do these have a baseplate available that rotates? A local dealer says no. If that is the case how do you manage retrieval of the weight when its hanging out at the end of the pole? Am I missing something here? Maybe you unsnap 'em and step back into the boat to bring the ball in. Any thoughts appreciated.

Here are the different mounting systems. I have one that turns 360 deg. and I have a uni-troll. http://www.cannondownriggers.com/sit...ing_system.htm

Thanks for the link. It looks to me like these Uni-Troll rigs that I am looking at fit into the tab lock base or am I mistaken. The tab lock base doesn't rotate. Can you mount the tab lock on a swivel base?

Your dealer is FOS! You need the base plate and swivel bracket. Be careful replacing the wire with mono (as some would recommend) - Cannons are a little touchy about that. I use a float on the wire and am not bothered by any wire noise.

Be wary buying downriggers without the mounting brackets. While it seems like a good deal all of the accessories will eventually drive the price almost to the point of a preriggged out of the box brand new one. I found a sweet deal on e-bay and jumped at it without thinking. By the time I bought the gimbal mounts and tab lock bases and swivel bases I actually spent more than a brand new set would cost.

The Cannon HP Uni-Troll is sold as a complete package with the tab base and swivel mount. Something smells a little fishy!!

You can buy a rotating base for the Uni-Troll. For that matter you buy any part you need to rebuild it. I was just given one that had the frame broken where the previous owner tried to put it on a Penn base. Called a dealer and had the part the next day.

Yes they do have a swivel base. We've got 2, they work great.
