Braid almost always....Nothing over 12lbs though. I think 4lbs braid is 12lbs strength. Not really sure. As for buying good line? Flea Bay Find a good dealer and go from there. You can get spools from 150yds to the three pounders at times..Hope this helped

I assume you are talking about Striped kind of bass????

If so,
Bait/Chunking/topwater
20# Fireline is the ticket & 40# leader of some type (floro if you are anal)
Jigging
10-14# Fireline + leader will do.

For stripers it's 40# Ande!

Because I don't want them to get away!

For livelining it's either 40# Ande or 65# Power Pro, I use the mono when fishing around rocks and I feeel the 40# Ande at least can give you a chance with a big fish around structure.

Please specify Stripers next time. "-aSS" fishing as per ESPN doesn't apply to this board!

I have been seeing a lot of posts with people prefering mono over braid for chunking. What is the advantage? I have been using braid for everything and wondering if I should switch it up.

braid floats ,for one thing, get enough out and it acts like a bobber. the other ,for me ,it's too expensive and don't need it for chunkin'. I do buy it in 1500 yd spools for bottom fishing though.absolutely necessary for 100 ft and deeper.

Thanks North Coast, but I'm too in love with braided to ever go back. Someguys seem to like the stretch of mono when chunking but I'm not sure how this is an advantage.
