Default July 4th World cup blue marlin championship

Anyone know anything about this? It's a worldwide competition that I was thinking about entering. Pretty big entry fee ( 3000 Dollars) but it's a winner takes all prize.

I would only enter if you are in places that have a good chance to win. Is it just blues or are blacks allowed? I, personally, would want to fish Mederia, Guana, Australia (for blacks), or maybe even a place like the Marshal Islands. Good Luck.

Only blue marlin allowed. We have blues 450 - 1000 # + in the season so the chances are at least as good as Madeira.

It is an exciting and well run tournament.... the only one of its kind that is truly GLOBAL. Bermuda has won it for the past 3 years and at least 4 times historically. 2 of those fish were Granders..... the only 2 fish to win this tournament that were in that class.

If you wanted a shot at winning.... I would fish here in Bermuda or Kona. Better get booking soon as most of the better charter boats are already booked for that day as there is also a local tournament that includes the World Cup on one of its days. Last year there were something like 120+ boats fishing globally and winner takes all!!!!!!

It's bloody hard to raise, hook, successfully fight to the boat under strict IGFA rules and put into the boat a BIG blue marlin in a single day's fishing. Sure it can be done but ... A tournament like this is really more like gambling. Bermuda and Kona have won so many times because they have A. RELIABLE fishing for big blue marlin in early July - B. LARGE fleets of highly skilled and experienced skippers hired by anglers who can afford the hefty tournament fee. The NE Atlantic has the size fish that can win. July is normally one of the best months for both La Gomera and Madeira, but even then that's no guarantee you will find the winner on the day. Further north the best blue marlin fishing tends to be a little later although a winner did come from the Azores in 2001, I think. I'd only do it if prefishing at least 3-4 days prior indicated good enough blue marlin fishing to put my $3000 on the line.

Here's a few picture of the Blue that won it 2 years ago. I think she went 1189, if I can remember right.
