Make sure it's 4" diameter with a solid cap at one end and a screw fit on the other. Wrap your rods in towels and underwear. That way if they lose your baggage, you'll still have underwear with your rods.

Bazooka Tube. Lighter, less cumbersome then PVC. You can adjuyst the length and has a handle.

we just traveled to Florida in march with the pvc tube like the ones described in the above. TSA had no problem with it..been using that method forever. helps to have a screw on end, and we even attached a strap for easy carrying through the airport. - mike

I have seen many airports with my rods and travel now with a plano rod case,I have travelled with the pvc pipe but noticed the luggage people have trouble getting grip on it and they just throw it around like a piece of PVC pipe .
topeyes I now pack in a piece of foam and the rods in Tshirts and towels and I mostly add some reels to keep them from bouncing around.
I always notify the airline that I'm taking the rod case (and let them make a note)with me to avoid trouble with checking in, this is because it's longer than they allow and some don't know what to do with it.
This way I never had trouble.
They count the rodcase like one piece of luggage and you have to pay much$$$ if you have more pieces than allowed.

I was just in Guatemala and Costa Rica with my five year old grandson. We had a Plano tube and a pvc pipe tube to which I had strapped a handle onto. TACA and LACSA didn't have any problems with either case.
