Default I got spooled!!!

Made a turn heading in towards the dock and soon notice the sound of my drag barely audible above the Bob Marley. I look up to a rod on the t-top and see the spool almost empty. Quick stop the boat and cut the line. 300 yards of 65 lb power pro down the toilet. How?? I have no idea. Somehow the hook must have came loose, reached out and grabbed a piling. I pulled all the line in and it was a mess. $25.00 later I'm back in business. Be careful of those piling fish, they will cost you money!! Luckily it was the end of the day and we were heading in. Oh well..

Consider yourself lucky you hooked a piling and not your prop shaft! Otherwise, $25 wouldn't have covered it.

we were trailering our boat to the ramp one morning with the rods in the holders. I left one of the drags all the way loose and when we got to the landing, the reel had no line on it. Don't know if it latched to something, but there was about 650 yards of 30lb mono out on the highway somewhere. I've learned not to travel with the drag totally loose.

In my former pickup I had a rocket launcher set up to carry my rods to the beach. On one trip I pulled out of the driveway and headed down the street. I started to hear this whinning sound and wondered what was wrong with the truck. About 300 yards from the house I pulled over to look around the vehicle. Yup......one of my king rods was bent over like it was holding an AJ. A snap swivel had caught a branch in my driveway. I took the rod out and proceeded to walk back to my house respooling the line....two neighbors stopped and asked me what I ws doing. When I told them they busted out laughing at me...we still joke about it today.

Good test Tireless. Were the drag washers greased on that one?

Squirrel fishing...I wish I thought of that!

Yes Bull.....but fortunately I always back off the drag to the minimum setting when in storage so the reel wasn't smoking. Unfortuately, I did have to throw away all of the line, all 300 yards of my super secret trash catching stuff. I'll give you a hint of the secret formulation ....... I brine the line in the toilet for a day ...... after I eat a breakfast burrito.

Last season I was stretching / unkinking about 200 yds of 25 lb test yo-zuri hybrid behind my boat. This I/O cruiser comes by us and sucks almost all of it into his prop. I felt somewhat responsible so I hailed him on the VHF. After 10 minutes of hailing he finally replied. I explained that he had just sucked up the better part of 200 yds of mono, and offered to help him clear it. He said it shouldn't be a problem and proceeded on. I wonder how that worked out?

I know the feeling. Some years ago when I purchased my first Lp deep drop set ups. I had a 12/0 senator filled with 200lb braid. Left the dock for the breaking in trip and forgot to engage the gear. (I also store my reels with all drags off and breaks off). Running at 30knots, within a few mins the snap swivel had managed to lower down into the water and the resulting gun shot about freaked me out. 200lb braid makes a heck of a noise when breaking at 30knots. Now that should have taught me a $400 lesson. A few weeks ago did the same thing, forgot to push up the drag on one of my Tiagras when heading offshore. Got to the bank and found 600yds of 130lb powerpro and 200 yds of 80lb ande gone. Sounds funny now.

I'd have backed down on that piling and recovered the line. That would be one site I've never seen at the dock.

Last week, I left two of my poles in the t-top rocket launchers. I was looking at them, and about to ask the guy in the boat to get them down, when a hot chick walked by in a thong bikini, distracted my attention, I'm severe ADHD don't you know. Anyway, I forgot. I was sitting in the back seat of the truck and looked out the window and saw what I had forgotten. One pole was broken, twice and the other was fine. I figured I'd just wait till we got to the gas station to fix it. The other pole had a hook only on 30lb test (flip stick for dolphin), well, all that line is in a tree I guess, there wasn't a string left on it. Better that one than the one with 50lb momoi base, with 200 yards of 80lb spider wire. Jeez, I thought those people were honking at me cause i'm so fine!!!!!!!!!!!!!

nothing but rods and empty reels.
