Default Fathom 25N

Looking for rod recommendations for Penn Fathom 25N. This setup would be used primarily relatively shallow bottom fishing and light trolling in Gulf of Mexico.

I was thinking the Bluewater Carnage 20-40LB 7' rod, anyone have any other suggestions ?

have mine on a 5'8 XXH Ugly Stik Tiger lite used for Speed Jigging, Bottom Fishing, and a liiiiiiittle trolling once but I don't troll often. Great for everything I tried it with and my fathom is honestly probably my favorite reel. Looking forward to getting my hands on the new lever drag model when it hits the shelves.

It's a good reel. I have mine on an ugly stick tiger lite jigging rod used for shallow bottom fishing. I don't troll with it though. I think it will work fine with the rod you mentioned if you want a dual purpose bottom fishing and trolling set up.

I used a Star Paraflex XXXH, 50lb braid with a mono topshot. Great combo for jigging and bottom fishing, would be fine for dragging small to medium lures and baits.

I have mine on a 8 foot shikari live bait 20-30lb rod(similar to glass seeker rods). I love this set up, and have used it for everything. It's primarily used slow trolling live baits, but have used it for bottom fishing on the reef many times. Also use it to troll billy baits. 50lb braid and 20 or 30lb topshot. You might not be able to find the rod anywhere, but any live bait rod (soft tip) works great with this reel. Those blue water carnage rods seem nice.
