Default Quepos Costa Rica charter - January

I'll be there in January and looking to catch my first (and 2nd, and 3rd etc) billfish. Looking for recommendations for a charter.

Quepos Fishing Adventures are pretty good. Did very well with Johnny on his 28ft Panga

Fished With Capt. Randy on Swordfish last February. English specking Tico Captain. Very knowledgeable captain. If you can, try and not go through a booking agency for whoever you decide to fish with. You'll get a better price if you book directly with the boat. Think it was $900 for a full day.

x2 What Jason said. I've been out with Capt. Jerry who works with Capt. John and had a blast both times. Top notch organization. Capt. John goes by SailFishQuepos on THT.

If you need a larger boat for a big party or just for the shade and AC, I've been out on the Caribsea for about 10 full days over three separate trips over the years. plug "sailfish adventure costa rica" into youtube to see my video from the last go round in March.

Thanks guys for recommending us, we'd love to do your trip if you decide to come our way!

If you get a chance, this last January my 30 foot Gamefisherman was actually averaging around 12 bill fish releases a day. He is booking up pretty good, but if you want to send me when you guys are going to be here, i can send you over what we still have open. The full day offshore runs 850 on that boat with all the food and drinks included, and of course with an American captain! Here's a picture of the boat:

Here's a nice marlin we got a few days back!

This is actually a pretty good suggestion also, Randy has retired from fishing though and his boat is out of the water right now, i'm trying to buy it, I think he might go back in for the season, not sure. My boat above is actually identical to his boat and I'm working on buying the Swordfish as I love restoring the old wood boats!

Capt., thanks for the reply. I'll be there Jan 24, 25 and 26th. Do you have those dates open on your 30 ft. Gamefisherman?

Randy is retired from fishing on the Swordfish? I think not. The boat is out of the water, this is true, it is called offseason maintenance. Your trying to buy the Swordfish? This is news to me as I am the owner of this boat. Your boat is identical to mine? I dont think so. Quit starting rumors about my boat and captain Randy. You aint even a pimple on his ass.

I had a great time fishing with Capt. Dale Weir on his 38ft Bluewater III. Good English speaking captain. Definitely worth looking into

Are you the guy that got deported for 5 years for yelling at the airport people? Sounds like the same guy!!!

I didn't realize the boat was still yours, you've been gone for 3.5 years ... ought to PM me if you weren't trying to sell it, i was negotiating with somebody :? ... And randy is a great captain, top shelf English speaking fish finding machine, I just said he doesn't fish anymore...that would be true...

And my boat was the first boat made by the same guy (Dennis Garrett) that made the Swordfish, mine was number 1 finished in '83 Swordfish was number 3 finished in '86. My boat used to be called the Flamingo 1, then came the Flamingo 2, then the swordfish.

Just talked with Dennis the other day and he sent me over this cool pic of the first day my boat was actually fished back in 83. It's fun to look at the picture and wonder if he knew that this boat would set off all the cold molded mania here in Costa Rica that is still going on even today with the Maverick's. I actually just sent a million pictures to a CAD / CNC guy to have a mold CNC cut of the hull (I took shots of both my hull and the Swordfish to have him check to see if they were the same or different as i was curious, but they ended up being the same) and I'm going to start building them again, as i would like a few more and it seems cheaper and easier to build them than to buy more. We are going to do a full foam topside though in corecell and then do the cold molded just for the hull itself. Going really high end with Kevlar / eglass hybrid on the hull and over the foam, i have been reading the Lightning Yacht build forum and those guys have inspired me. Back to the Dennis boat's, check out the pic Dennis sent me of their first trip on mine:

Not much to look at here in the pic above, but it was the technology of the hull, being one piece with no inside structure, making it super light that set this boat apart. And being light helped with the fishing

The hull is identical on most of the boats he made in this size, but the Flamigo 2 they quit putting the cabin. We didn't much care for the cabin either so I nixed it when i bought the boat... You can see the thread here on THT where we did all the work here:

Dale drives a boat called the Victory now, I think he said he was focusing on mostly FAD trips, like the three day ones where they catch a million marlin, but I'm sure he'd take out a customer if somebody asked...

Just got back from Quepos and I fished with John -- first class operation -- heck they even threw in a pod of killer whales for us. (very rare) Caught fish, learned a lot from the captains and the mates and had a fine time. Will be booking again as soon as I can find 4 days in a row I can get away.

Awesome third post!.... Really a class act. makes me want to jump right on your boat and give my money to such a douche....I didn't see anything but respect in the post about "your" boat and "your" captain. Maybe it would be a wise business decision to stick with only three posts before the fourth or fifth stick your foot in your mouth even further.
