Default backlash removal in braid

Does anyone have any helpful advice for removing birds nests in braid? I got a nasty one today that I just couldn't get out at all, had to cut it (I monkeyed with the line so much I was afraid it would be weakened anyway)

Chapstick will help with small knots and tangles. For the birds nests save those for an evening in front of the tv, a lot of time and patience. Otherwise break out the knife and respool.

Had 1 or 2 worse than that. Put the rod aside and as stated above a nice project on a slow night in front of the TV with a rum & coke LOL.

First off I have found that braid does not cast well. It tends to cut into itself while reeling a fish in and thus causing backlash on next cast. To prevent this from happening I cast the line as far as I can. Then I take a small piece of electrical tape and go around the spool 1/2 to 3/4 around spool. Then reel back in and continue fishing. This only allows the backlash to go as deep as the tape. If I catch a fish the electrical tape comes right off as the line is peeled off by the fish.
I know this doesn't help your current situation but will help next time from being so bad.

thanks for all the helpful advice! I will definitely try the tape trick. And I'll stock up on alcohol in case if that doesn't work
