Default leaning helm seat ?

..I'm finally looking at center consoles to possibly purchase, I've never owned one, I assume you stand /lean all the time,
there's no sitting on these while piloting?..are they better than the seat ?

Yes, a seat will beat you up running in any kind of seaway. IMO, the best leaning posts for a CC is a leaning post with a removable back rest and a flip down aluminum tubing foot rest, so you can sit on it while trolling or hanging out, but set it us for running or fishing too, when a back rest is just in the way too.

FWIW, I have 56' sportfish and when conditions dictate driving by hand and not by auto pilot, i.e. when trying to run as fast as possible without launching or burying the boat in rough conditions, I stand and use the helm chair as a leaning post. My helm chairs were made several inches taller just for that purpose. And, interestingly, top of the line helm chairs have removable back rests and foot boards that rotate out of the way, not dissimilar to a good leaning post (but they're frigin' expensive!!!)

I had one of these on a 24' CC I owned several years ago. That boat had a live well behind the helm and Birdsall custom made the legs to fit on top. It was a quality piece of gear. http://www.marineproducts.net/38-ori...ncher-10-tray/
