Default Using wire?

Yes a silly question but I am new to fishing. Last year I purchased a Penn 113 Senator marked 4/0 made in USA on Ebay that I now hope is wire rated. Also marked is Penn Senator one-piece graphite frame. The bail(?)/spool is black, could be plastic, carbon fiber or even black anodized aluminum.

Also from what I read the Penn Special Senator rod is not rated for wire. I don't want to spend the family jewels on fishing gear so what is recommended for wire?

Thanks--

I think aluminum spools are nono for wire line if that's what you're asking about. I believe that is what it has too.

This reel has no other marking other than 113 without the H, H2 or H2SP so I do believe it is not rated for wire.

I was able to purchase a pair of Penn Special Senator rods yesterday on Ebay. One is 20-40#, the other is 30-50#s. Not new of course but for $75 I have quality rods that will should meet my summer needs. Maybe no wire, I can live with that. If I catch anything eatable it will be a new experience.

Thanks guys--

Foggy
