Default Tarpon Fishing West Coast FL

Looking for recommendations on tarpon fishing on FL West Coast. Just my wife & I, not too interested in fighting the crowd at Boca Grande Pass. Prefer a quiet atmosphere. We have no limitations on destination or time.

Plenty of options, beach fishing anywhere on the west coast, pick a resort you like, sanibel, captiva, Venice, Sarasota, Bradenton, st Pete, Clearwater...then u got the keys...

Captiva area, for a fish and "romantic" getaway, pine island area, little gaspirilla, inn on boca grande..options are many

Don't let BG Pass keep you away from Boca Grande entirely. Go get a yourself an on island rental condo (Sea Oats is good) for a week and fish the beaches or harbor. Plenty of options north and south to fish.

Haven't been out this WE but was in Boca Pass on Wednesday and it was not crowded at all. Lots of Tarpon rolling; didn't see any being caught but I didn't stick around long. I did see a couple of hookups in Gasparilla Pass.

Also plenty of tarpon off the beaches in Boca Grande. Plenty of opportunities there without messing around with the pass.

The tarpon fishing has been on fire lately off of Sarasota. I personally catch them off my kayak 50-100 yards off the beach.

What rod / reel / line / lure setup is best for Tarpon.

I use a crowder 8 ft rod with a Shimano Thunnus 12000 reel. Spooled with 60lb yellow braid and either 50/60lb Fluorocarbon leader. For bait I use small blue crabs/pass crabs or pin fish with a bobber. I have been catching them this way since I move down here.
