Default Arctic Ice cooler packs

Thinking about buying some 5lb Arctic Ice packs for my 150q Brute fish cooler. Anyone use either the Alaskan or Tundra packs? How do you like them? Which one would you recommend for a fish cooler? The Tundra is designed to keep things frozed but I'm not sure which one I should buy.

I bought one of each (arctic ice and the tundra) in the smaller size to test them. Based on 4 or so trips, I would say the arctic ice lasts a bit longer. Not sure if that will be true for the larger sizes. I will probably buy one of each in the larger sizes.

Downside to the arctic ice is the possibility of it getting punctured.

If you go with the Tundra, make sure your freezer can get down to the required temp. Mine did not at first so I had to reset it, then it worked fine.

I certainly like not dealing with ice, especially for shorter fishing trips and for packing food for a one day or less hunting trip.

I will need the larger sizes to keep things frozen in my size of cooler.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to decide between the Tundra and the Alaskan. Would like to hear how well the Alaskan keeps in a Yeti or Brute type cooler.

I'm not sure if I want to run my freezer at max especially durring the hot months. That will likely kill my Kenmore lol.

We use Arctic Ice Tundra and Chillin' Brew in our ice packs. One 6# ice pack will freeze water in our 75QT. If you want to keep items cold go with Alaskan if you want to keep them frozen go with Tundra.

Correction to my earlier posts: I bought the small Nu-ice and the small tundra series. Nu-ice was lasting a bit longer.

Yesterday, I bought the large size tundra and the large size nu-ice. Will let you know who wins in the large size. The plan is to use the nu-ice for food and drinks and the tundra for fish. But you know how plans go....

I ordered 4 large tundra packs to line the bottom of my 150q fish box and top with a little ice. I'll post results when I get out on the water.

Put them to the test yesterday on a 9 hour trip. I decided to use my fish kill bag with tundra packs and 3 bags of ice. The cooler bag was on the front casting deck in the sun all day. Temp was about 80 degrees for the high. Put a wahoo and several AJs in it. After the trip there was still a bag worth of ice and the tundra packs were partially frozen inside and water froze around the outside. Pretty impressed with the performance. When it gets hot I'll likely put the cooler bag into my built in front cooler instead of leaving it exposed. If you live in the south, I highly recommend the Tundra packs over the Alaskan ones.

Hi guys,

I just bought 3 of the Arctic Chillen Brew packs in the large size for my Yeti Tundra 65 cooler. I will test these out over the weekend and report back with my findings.

Since my last post I used mine several times over the summer and they're bad a$$. I put 4 on the bottom of my 150q Brute box with 10lbs of ice. At the end of the day I have to use a hose to get everything out including some smaller fish like mingos and chicken dolphin that are frozen half solid.

Got two of the artic ice packs. Work well, they take a week to freeze solid in my bait freezer. I through them on the bottom of my fish box. It helps to reduce melt and chills the fish faster.

The arctic ice Alaskan series should freeze overnight. If you have a good chest freezer you might get the Tundra to freeze over night. Ours take about 2 days but my temp controller is only turned a bit past half. You can also get more and alternate them.

Bought 4 of the largest Alaskan and they seem to work well w my limited experience. I played around and found some techni ice on the net. That stuff is nasty crap, don't waste your money. I also like to keep a lot of frozen water bottles and put them in my fish cooler or yeti the night before to chill them and then put in ice or Arctic ice and that helps out tremendously. Although if you slip on your boat and break your ankle the techni ice does conform rather well to it....... Or so I've been told :-)

I have been looking at these as well. Do you put drinks and ice on top of them and it just makes your ice last longer? Or can one buy enough of these and line one's fishbox with them? Trying to justify cost...

We met them at ICAST 2014 and the product was pretty impressive. They gave us a quick overview of their three different series of Artic Ice Freeze Packs. They all have a different purpose and anyone who might be in the market for one should check out the interview we made with them explaining the three different kinds they have.

Do you use these with ice or can they be put in a cooler or fish box without any ice. I get tired of dealing with ice.

CG, go to their site and watch the videos. It shows the difference and which is best for you. It explains the ice also if I remember correctly.
