i like the fact that you can interchange filters quickly and easily.

yeah, i haven't had mine for very long and last weekend was my first time using it underwater. I was very disappointed with the image quality using the stock lens. So if you have any visions of going underwater with it, I highly suggest getting the flat lens. If you have two cameras, maybe get one flat lens and leave one stock. And if you don't really want to use any filters, there are other companies out there that make flat lenses for much less than the link I posted.
But for me, I will be using it above and below. For above, I prefer to have a polarizing filter and the BlurFix product will allow me to take it off real quick for going underwater. The filter I have now goes inside of the case, between the camera lens and the housing lens. So if i go underwater, it's a major pain to remove it.

Get the Mako flat lens. The flat lens also takes great video above water.

the difference with the snake river prototyping is that you can use interchangeable filters so you can use red for diving, polarized, UV filters etc. another advantage is that it sits on the OUTSIDE of the housing so if it floods the stock one is still there to protect the camera. their customer support is excellent and i would recommend it over all the others. just my .02.

How in the hell does GoPro justify selling an underwater camera that doesn't take good underwater videos?

I don't get it.;?;?;?

It was originally designed for outdoor sports usage (motorcycle, snowboard, motocros,ect...) and some "surf" usage. meaning above water in a watertight compartment. The fact that it is compact, shoots HD and only costs $300 caused demand to out pace supply. I am sure you'll see more of the accessories available directly from GoPro real soon.
Even the Chinese get caught off guard occasionally and that is exactly what happened here. They are playing catchup to keep supply revenue going.

yeah, i don't think GoPro markets it as an underwater camera. it's an Action camera that is waterproof. while i agree that they could do more to make the underwater image better quality, i'm ok with the way it is because it isn't being sold as an Underwater Camera. for the price, it's a pretty damn good camera.

Found somewhere Gopro doesn't work well. Backwards.
Mounted the go pro on the dragster about a foot and a half back from the front tires facing me. Did the burn out great, and didn't kick it hard for the first 60 foot to see if it flipped the camera and holder over then nailed it. It stopped the video several times in the next 4.7 seconds then resumed once I let off of it.
Did have the viewer on the back but taking it off for the race tomorrow and going with just the camera. Also sticking it on the helmet so might not be much better,, LOL, but have the roll bar mount on top the cage and going to take at least a run with it up there.

Here's another vote for the snake river prototyping kit. Easy to install, changeable filter, and great picture above and below the water.
