Default 90 lb Striper?

Read this on another web site. Out of Barnigat Inlet heard a guy throwing a bunker net this past weekend snaged a 90+ lb striper. Heard the feds took the fish and fined the guy. Anyone now if there is any truth to this story?

Hell of a haul in a cast net, not sure why that would be wrong but not abreast of the laws up there

In New Jersey it is illegal to harvest striped bass with a net of any kind.

I didn't hear the story, but can believe it. The guy who owns the spearfishing record for stripers said that when he goes down, he finds fish that size and bigger. It's just that they are so wary, they rarely let anything get near them.

There was a 92 lber caught in a net used for research, I believe in Maryland, but I could be wrong. There's also allot of lore about truly huge 100+ before the turn of the [last] century. I remember reading about a striper that weighed 120 with the head cut off.

WOW, I couldn't imagine trying to haul a 90Lb. Striper in with a cast net. I caught a 23Lb Carp while throwing for shad, and it tore my 10 Ft. net up pretty good.

The largest striped bass on record weighed 125 pounds and was caught in a seine net in North Carolina in 1891.
Since 1982 there apparently has been only 1 striped bass caught And verified that exceeded the 78.5 pound world record. The fish did not become the new IGFA record because it was caught in a net by the maryland DNR durring a resent project around 1995. The Striped Bass a massive 92 lbs hangs on the wall of the DNR in Annapolis MD
