How often do you have to change braided line ?
 

Stuff can get expensive when you have several Penn 114s to spool every year to cod fish. I used them april-july. Should I still respool every year ? Thanks !!

It really depends on use. For the average fisherman, it will last several years. You do have to cut off and retie any time you see any sort of wear in the line, and check it closely every time you land a fish.

The variables to place most consideration on would be use and abuse. If you notice fraying, and the reel has plenty of line to spare, you might just consider stripping the frayed line down to fresh line. I'm not sure of a deterioration timeline for braid. I would wager it's a long time. So, replace as needed according to abrasion not necessarily a timeline.

I have been using braid extensively for about 15 years. Unlike mono, it appears to be relatively unaffected by age. Visible wear appears to be the primary consideration. As posted above, I periodically trim the business end as needed, particularly if using a sliding sinker above a swivel. Given your season, you should expect multiple years of use.

Give it a good rinse with fresh water after use along with letting the line completely dry prior to storing with a reel cover and you should be good for at least 3+ years or better.

Don't soak the reels by submerging them for an extended amount of time. That is a noob move that could prematurely break down the braid if it doesn't dry properly.

I've got reels with braid that is 6 yrs old and will still slice thru your finger like day one if you try to pull and break it.
