Default How do you attach a sinker with a rubberband

Can some one explain how you attach a sinker with a rubberband. I am interested in doing this while kite fishing and drifting with a sea anchor. Want to try it for sailfish and kingfishing . Thanks in advance.

Bend your leader in two and push the loop thru the hole in an egg sinker. When it comes out the other side, take a piece of rubber band and pit it in the exposed loop and pull it half way back thru the hole. When a fish eats, it pulls the leader the remaining way out of the hole and drops off

So you lose a sinker with every bite?

Just make sure you do not use a rubber band that is to big to pull through the hole on egg sinkers.

Most of the time, yes, you loose the sinker. Sometimes the line pulls out but the rubber band stays in the hole and is still wrapped around the line and you may get it back, but when a sailfish jumps, the shaking of it's head, which is attached to the line is enough to break the rubberband free of the hole

The methods above are using egg sinkers. You may have to drill out the hole a touch to fit your doubled over running line & make sure there are not burrs. And yes you will lose the sinker if done right.

You can also use bank sinkers & keep your sinker. You run the risk of get bit off. But you will have to break the rubber band before it reaches the rod tip to keep your sinker. Feed the rubber band thru the hole, double over a rubber band on the bank sinker hole, wrap the other end around the running line 5 times, then feed it back thru the bottom of the bank sinker to hold in place. .......
